That may be fair, but with that extra $600, could you have turned the other rifle into one that performs equally?

i just built a complete gun for 600.00, sharps rifle company complete lower for 200.00 with adjustable 6p stock. delton carbine upper 375.00. all brand new . gun shoots great.

i can actually build one cheaper then that, plum crazy upper complete are selling for 125.00,if i buy 2 delton upper i can get them for 360.00 ,so 485.00 complete.

Sure replace the barrel, Bolt, LPK, possibly the receiver extension.

But remember that Noveske rifles come with a number of things others don't iMod stocks. troy BUIS. AAC or Vortex Flash hiders. this is $350+ of stuff just there. Plus the better barrels and knowledge the gun is right from day one.

I agree that there is an "Emperor's new Gun" phenomena driving opinions. If someone spends a lot of money on a guy, they don't want to believe that it is entirely possible that they could have gotten a very good gun for a LOT less money.

And Mil-spec means little. It means that the specs live up to the standards of the cheapest bidder. Those of us who are know that mil-spec isn't great. People talk about things like staked gas keys, but I'll tell you, the only gas key I have ever had come loose on me was on an issued M-16.

Most rifles will work for most people under most circumstances most of the time. Don't worry too much about brand, particularly for a first rifle.

Funny, I actually see the opposite usually. People trying to justify the purchase of an inferior weapon by claiming it is "just as good as" when it isn't and the reasons are documented and provable. For the record I have owned a number of those cheaper guns. They are not anywhere near as good as.

You are showing here that you have no idea how the process works or what "milspec" even is. Milspec does not mean it was made by the lowest bidder. The standards are set forth in the TDP. these are the absolute minimums must be met for a weapon to be used in the military. It includes specifications, materials, testing, and QC. All of which must be documented and shown.

And as for the one failed gun you have seen being a military gun. Well what do you expect. Those guns are abused night and day. Imagine how much more often they would fail if the manufacturer was not forced to meet minimum standards.

All depends on your need and situation. If your rifle will ever be used for HD or anything besides shooting dirt then "most of the time" doesn't really cut it.

One of the reasons that ARs have a bad rap for failing is because of the sub par companies out there.

does anyone have a smith & wesson m&p 15

Used too. good weapons. Not quite up to the level of some of the others we have discussed but a good starting rifle. Just avoid the new Sport model

What is so much different about the sport model? Other than no dust cover or foward assist is it that much worse?

Here's where we disagree. Since you mention the Imod, I assume you are buying a complete Noveske rifle? The cheapest I have been able to find them is at $1450, which is closer to $900 above the Del-ton build. At that difference, you can basically order the Del-ton without the BCG, buy the parts you claim to be that much better, and still save a few hundred left over. I personally wouldn't spend the cash on either the Imod or the flash hiders. I also wouldn't be looking to keep the trigger from either rifle. I don't do anything that chrome lining would benefit so their barrels, in reality for me, are no better than the Wilson that comes with the Del-ton. Most everything you mention, outside potentially of the BCG, I find no value in. Hard to claim that in my uses the extra $900 would be better spent on the Noveske.

As said, other than the lack of a FA and a lack of a dust cover, what makes them so inferior?

Don't get me wrong. I don't think there is anything wrong or bad about the "top tier" ARs out there. I don't like the attitude that they cost the same as budget ARs or that everyone who does just "shoot dirt" or whatever other insulting term you want use needs to spend the extra money on the slim returns seen in the more expensive rifles. I have no problems either with someone buying the best, regardless of price, because the need it or even just want it. It seems anymore though that the basic thought is that all ARs cost the same so just get the brands based around reliability rather than assessing the uses a rifle may or may not be asked to perform.

Dude, not for nothing, but you used the "BEST" baitword... I'm surprised this thread isnt closed yet LOL.

You want best, you go beyond brands and get a "WYLDETHING"...etc. custom sub moa @ high yardage... oh yeah, you gotta make your own tweaked rounds too, it NEVER ENDS... most guns are way better than the operators :D Just be humble and get in the mix, stop stirring us up! hehehe
