What ammunition do you prefer to use most in your CCW or HD gun?

I would say Winchester Ranger if I could get my hands on it or Speer Gold Dot in close second. Ive read many many ballistics tests and many say that Federal Hydra-shoks do not expand reliably, so therefore I wouldn't use them.

gold dot or corbon DPX. I like the bonded bullet and the one piece DPX. They both expand almost all the time in the tests I've seen.

I am really interested in the gold dots loaded by Double Tap.

Tough Question

I did not know how to vote in that one. I use the Remongton Golden Saber a lot. But I am a big user of the Winchester Ranger and the Federal Hydra-Shok also [esp. the 230 gr Hydra-Shok .45acp]

147gr WWB's personal defence. Goes bang every time, my gun eats it up. No sense in paying almost a dollar a round if you ask me.

Sorry, I just asked this question in another post...before I saw this one:D

What would be a good home defense round in a CZ75sp01...Since they have issues with certain types of bullets? Anyone have ansp01 and have a good type to use??

Thanks

Toss up between Federal and Hornady. In my .40s, I only have Federal HydraShocks right now...155gr. In my 45's, there is a mix. Two of them have 185gr +p from Federal. Another has 200gr from Hornady. All JHP.

Federal 230 grain Hydroshock in 45 ACP

Remington 158 grain +p LHP in 38 Special

Corbon 115 grain +p in 9mm (changing to Remington 124 +P GS)

I use Remington 230 grain Bonded Golden Sabers in my 5” and 4.25” .45s.

Remington .38 Special + P Golden Sabers in my Python for my wife.

I also reload the same non-bonded bullets (non-bonded=cheaper) for practice and reliability tests.

#1 Buck in my Benelli.

I use 230 gr hydra-shoks in my kimber, and #4 buck in my shotgun.

In a similar thread a while ago, I was flamed because Federal and a few other brands have updated rounds, and this somehow makes hydra-shoks obsolete and uttery ineffective. You might as well curse at the target.

I don't by PD ammo very often. I tested my pistol with 200 rds of hydra-shoks, they work, and not just for me. That's what I will keep using until they aren't made anymore. I'm not going to buy 200 rounds to test new ammo every time the manufacturer changes colors.

Having said that, I have read and heard enough about the Corbon stuff to give it a try.

Any of the above, I buy what's on sale so they are cheap enough to get some practice with and verify function in a variety of guns. So I voted "other".

Lately its been Win Ranger SXT, $19/50 out the door at guns shows for the LEO 50 round boxes (9mm, .40 S&W and 45ACP). Got a case of 1000 (20 boxes) .40 S&W 180gr SXT for $240 from KY Imports a couple of months ago, been great in my Kahr PM40.

For my Pro sized Kimber I use the 230 gr Hydra Shok PD loads

For the Ultra Carry I use the Federal PD 165 gr EFMJ

They work well and my attorney likes them because they are labeled "Personal Defence" I don't know if it will help if I have to use them on someone but every little bit helps in that situation.

Have a good one
