Got a Beretta 21A in 22LR that I have carried at times. My wife laid claim to it for awhile and now my daughter has it. It's a fun gun, reliable, and although not the best caliber for SD, it will work. Lot of folks discount the round ~ when I grew up in the rural South, just about every farmer had a .22 in their truck. They used those guns for just about everything.
One of my all time favorites is the Walther PP in .32 ACP. Over the last 30+ years I have owned five of the PP series pistols. I have had both .380 and .32 ACP in this gun. Hands down the .32 ACP functions better, and is more fun to shoot than the larger caliber in the Walther. It's light recoil provides for quick follow up shots, accuracy is tops, and the 9 shot (8+1) capability is pretty nice.
I've got a couple of .38s. For larger calibers a 44 Special Bisley, a 1911 45 ACP, and a Model 92 Winchester for distance.
If I knew for certain I was going to be in a fight, I'd choose my rifle. Otherwise, I am comfortable with the the smaller calibers. I want something that I will keep on me and with me instead of in my vehicle or at home.
