Why do I have to have license to protect myself? To save my own life if needed? A CCW permit seems like bs to me! I have carry'd off and on for the past 10 ish years. I carry when I feel the NEED to, and where I feel the need to. As a Tennessee resident, most of the places I go to are low crime & really laid back. So it has never been a concern for me in the past. But when I visit the 4 citys, I wnt to be armed. GOD gives me the right to protect myself. NOT THE GOVERNMENT!
I am glad that you have that relationship with your God. Does your God also post bail and defend you in court? Can he change the laws that are apt to put you in jail? Just curious, because if your God is able to bestow such things as rights, then I would think he could have some amazing sway with the legal system.
On a more practical level, I don't know of a single state or government agency that grants licenses for protection. There is no "license to protect myself." It is a license to carry a gun. The two concepts are related, but not the same thing. By both the law and by your God, you do have the right to defend yourself. That is not in question and to suggest otherwise would be to show a clear lack of understanding surrounding the concepts being addressed.
You can take it a step further and carry a gun and use if for self defense without a CCW and be 100% in the right for your God and self defense laws if you apply lethal force at a time when lethal force is warranted. So you will have legally defended yourself and you and your God can be happy about following the rights and laws in that manner. Of course, you will then likely be arrested on a weapons charge, but that charge will be separate from the act of self defense.
No doubt your God will visit you in jail and offer you comfort.
No disrespect meant to your God, but my God also says some things about following the laws of the land, in your case, Tennessee. When making appeals to disembodied authority for justification of behavior, you should not be surprised or offended when that disembodied authority's abilities are questioned. Not everyone holds the same beliefs about the supernatural. If your God can ascribe rights and whatnot, I would not be surprised if he couldn't also defend you in court or change laws. That is, after all, some awesome power.
