I Guess its good she chased him anyway, but i bet he was surprised when he found the Gun and her POLICE ID.

A reported escapee from a Wilmington community correction center was arrested Wednesday night after snatching an off-duty police officer's purse -- which contained her police-issued weapon -- and holding officers at bay for about two hours.
Korrie Smyre, 38, approached the officer at about 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Home Depot in the Miller Road Shopping Center in the 3600 block of Miller Road. The officer, whom police refused to identify, struggled but Smyre was able to break free and run, police said.
"When she came out of the store, the suspect snatched her purse and ran," Wilmington police Master Sgt. Steven Barnes said. "She started to yell and get people's attention around her."
He said the officer is a 22-year veteran who was not scheduled to work Wednesday. Carrying a department-issued weapon or a privately owned weapon while off duty does not violate department policy and is up to an officer's discretion, Barnes said.
After Smyre got away, the officer chased him in her Dodge Ram 1500 pickup to the Brandywine Hills Apartments, at 4310 Miller Road, just blocks away.
Smyre ran into the apartment of someone he knew, who notified police, they said.
Police made contact with Smyre and talked him into surrendering shortly before 8 p.m. They were helped by family and community members, including Wilmington City Councilman Charles Potter Jr., police said.
No one was hurt during the standoff, but the officer whose purse was taken was treated for minor injuries suffered during the struggle.
"I was on my way to Bible study and the police weren't letting people in or out because they said there was someone in the building," said Kim Smallwood, who lives across a walkway from the building where the standoff happened.
Smallwood and other residents watched as SWAT team officers took cover on neighbors' balconies and pointed weapons at the building's entrance.
"They evacuated everyone from that building into ours," Smallwood said. "This is really stressful."
Vené Thomas lives directly under the apartment where Smyre was holed up.
"I heard the woman screaming and knocking on doors," Thomas said. "She said, 'I'm a police officer. Somebody stole my gun!' "
He said the man who lives in the apartment where Smyre was hiding has children, but had to leave once Smyre got there.
The officer's gun was recovered, police said. Smyre, who police said was a resident of Plummer Community Correction Center at 38 Todds Lane in Wilmington, was taken to headquarters, where he was to remain until his arraignment.
