Winter cartridge ?????

Each round expands and peels off, allowing the next round to penetrate until it expands and peels off. You'd be able to kill really, really thick bad guys dressed in multiple layers of heavy clothes.
Plus, you'd get this nice, graduated entry wound, which you could use as a tiny little model greek amphitheatre, or a cupholder, or something.

-BP, betting he gets to the PTO before Keith.

Keith I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could call it the .45 Trojan Horse!

No Schlitz about calling the patent people! I would be on the phone now If I were you.

Make the .17 hour glass shaped, paint it red and call it the Black widow core.

That kicks azz.

I solve the problem by carrying 15 mags of everthing from depleted unranium to foam rubber. That way I'm prepared for every fashion emergency I might face.

Wouldn't a hollowpoint filled w/ fabric, thus not expanded, have a similar behavior to an FMJ? Energy is energy. If it's not expended by friction with a larger cross-section of flesh when expanding, it will keep going.

I doubt seriously that even multiple layers of insulated clothing would stop even an expanded 9mm.

It would appear that Martini13 has hit upon something.
There is a new Federal cartridge that is called an Expanding FMJ load.
I just read about it in the Dec. 2003/ Jan.2004 issue of HANDGUNS.
The article is written by Phil W. Johnston. In it he states that this new round was designed specifically for self defense. The jacket is designed to fracture upon impact. The copper jacket is over a rubber pellet bonded to a lead core. There are serrations in the copper jacket to insure it flattens evenly upon impact. Because it has a FMJ, the cartridge will not have the feeding problems that sometimes occur with hollow points.
Interestingly, he tested 9mm 105 grain and 45ACP 165 grain bullets at
25 yards.

The 45 round measured 397.7 ft-lbs of energy & penetrated 9 inches into 10% ballistic gelatin.

The 9mm round measured 292.4 ft-lbs of energy & penetrated 8 7/8".

I guess I'll have to go out and purchase some of this new ammo.

Yeah it's been around almost a year and so far it seems to be OK stuff.
But in tests Cor-Bon's PowerBall looks to be a better performer while Federal EFMJ is cheaper.

As for me I am sticking with Hydra-Shoks and Gold Dots for now.

Shot placement...

...anyone ever superimposed a B27 head on the torso scoring area?

I'm thinking the difference in size isn't that big...

...sure, like in high school basketball when I was taught to watch the navel, because it can't fake you out, the torso is less of a moving target than the head, but if sight picture is obtained, I'm not sure that inch for inch, nano-second for nano-second, the head is an order of magnitude harder to hit than COM.

It's harder, definitely harder, but I don't think it's night and day harder.

I think many have been psyched out into thinking they could never make a head shot if needs be...I'm not convinced that one can't train that doubt out of a shooter in order to make that shot if (and only if) absolutely necessary...

I'm going to do my best to train to achieve that capability, which kind of takes summer/winter cartridge out of the equation.

We practice on 8" knock down plates at 15 yards and I generally attempt rapid fire strings at least once during a session. I'm thinking that over time, I'll be able to make those shots consistently...at least that's the proficiency I'm "shooting" for over time.
