I have been thinking about getting an XD9, as I want a 9mm. I realized that I have been completely overlooking the CZ's. I have held one at the store, but have never shot one.

I would either get the CZ 75 B or the XD9 Service, Bi-Tone.

Should I just go for the XD as planned? I like the lifetime warranty for the XD. I think CZ has a 5 year.

What do you all think?

If I were you, I'll go for the CZ. I like the way it fits my hand, the durability, shootability, after market support and the longevity (it has been introduced since the 70's and still keeps on ticking like the 1911's). The XD is just an improvement over the Glock design. I am also comfortable with the frame mounted safety of the CZ. The CZ design has been copied just like the 1911's. Anyway, I'll go for the CZ:p

I've overlooked CZ for a long time too. Boy have I been missing out!

I wanted a full sized 40 S&W gun after I got my first .40 which was a Kahr. I was leaning towards a Taurus PT100 since I like their PT92 so much, but was having trouble finding one at a good price. Picked up a CZ 75B -- what a great shooting gun!

I liked the CZ 75B .40 so much I later picked up a CZ 40B (couldn't pass it up at $290), a CZ 75B & RAMI in 9mm, CZ 83 .380, and finally a CZ 97 45ACP. All have functioned 100% out of the box and have very good SA triggers with better than decent DA and have the Cocked'N"Locked safety I prefer. You can manually lower the hammer to half cock if you prefer SIG-style DA/SA operation. Many CZ have D variations that lack the Cocked'N'Locked safety and substitute a decocker instead -- I've no intrest in these.

Unless you really like plastic guns I'd go with the CZ, lots of people like the XD pistols, to me they are even blockier than a Glock and don't feel as good in my hand as does the CZ, but I've never shot one so perhaps I'm missing out on a good thing here as well. I suspect eventually I'll pick up the smallest XD since I have a thing for smaller than normal guns for their caliber. Another factor is the XD seems to run about $50-$75 more than the CZ dependning on the finish of the CZ.

I hate to say it but having recently discovered the XD I am losing interest in my CZ75. I have never been crazy about double action triggers, and while the CZs is pretty good I still don't like transitioning between DA/SA. My XD357 has a 4lbs trigger and it is pretty short. I also have never been comfortable carrying a gun cocked & locked with just a safety lever. On the 1911 you have the grip safety as well, and the XD similarly provides two safeties. I also find the XD fits my hand better than the CZ, although the latter is quite comfortable. The XD has an accessory rail that you only get in a few CZ models with the odd decocking lever (pull trigger to decock). 4" XDs weigh less for CCW purposes than a 75, and in my Blade-tech UCH hide VERY well. Both guns are dead reliable. I would give the 75 the edge in accuracy. As for price, well the CZ won't be too much cheaper if you keep your eyes open for a deal on a used XD. I paid $365 for my XD357, and $400 for my XD9. Both had around 200 rounds through them tops.

plinkerton, what do you intend to use the gun for? carry piece, range gun, what?

i like both the cz and the xd very much. both fit my hand very well and point very well. i'm more comfortable with the xd, however, as there's no manual safety or decocker to futz around with, no external hammer to potentially get caught on something, and no da trigger to annoy me. in a range gun, none of these really matter (which is why i've still really got my eye on a 75b - if they'd make one with a three position safety/decocker, i'd be even more interested).

the cz does have the advantage of looking better.

First and foremost, you can't really go wrong with either. That being said, get the CZ. You won't be disappointed. I'm not saying that you would if you got the XD, but if the CZ fits you, I'd go for it. Unless, of course, you just have to have plastic. Then you might want the XD. CZ makes a polymer framed gun, the CZ100, but I've heard of some problems. They are still good guns and reliable, but I've heard that the trigger is really bad. I've rented one in .40 before and it kicked like a mule. THe XD might get the nod in plastic, but if you don't HAVE to have plastic go with the CZ.

Again, you can't really go wrong with either. Just my opinion.

Peace out,
Calhoun

Nobody wanted an XD when they were the HS2000, just another peice of Eastern European trash, like those cheap CZ garbage. Well, well, were they wrong or what......I would gladly trust my life to a CZ, and the XD as well, but the CZ fits me like a glove.

Okay, I guess I should elaborate. I'm in Kali, so there is no carrying. Which ever one I get will just be a range gun/plinking, etc. It will most likely see a lot of use, as I try to go pretty often.

I don't need plastic, but I don't mind it. I don't really know anything about the CZ's at all. One thing I would need is some out of the box reliability. I really don't want to have to deal with any strange issues, or sending my gun back to the factory. I have a 686 revolver right now, and it just ticks on and on. I don't want to think about reliability problems.

Overall, I just want one that will be fun. I really do like the Tac rail on the xd, and the night sights I could get. I like how it's all "tactical" and "cool". :D

Overall, I just want the "better" gun. By better, I just mean better built, overall quality, etc. I will probably not get the chance to shoot a CZ before I buy one. I have shot an XD and liked it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking the CZ's as people really seem to like them.

Thanks

Anybody importing and selling the HS-2000 under its own name, or did SA lock up an exclusive deal before jacking up the price?

Both are nice handguns and would do well. Personally, I'd go with the CZ as a pure range gun. I'd probably get the XD as a carry gun. I've never shot an XD, but I've handled one a little. The CZ just feels right to me, and I can shoot it as well as the high dollar 1911's and Hk P7's.

The XD is a good, reliable firearm, but I regard it the same way that I see Glocks -- purely functional. I shoot Glocks ok, but nothing to write home about. But after shooting my CZ's, I always leave training or the range in a good mood because of my groups and overall performance.

Not quiet true... it was gaining popularity rather quickly, but the main stream was still hesitant because of the no name importer and fears of them being a here today gone tomorrow importer.
Springfield gave the guys in Croatia what they really needed... a solid name to import them and some real backing in terms of what they were missing before - marketing.

The XD/HS2000 has always been a great gun. Just stamping the Springfield name onto didn't make it any different... but the life time warranty did make it better. That shows a real comittment to this quality gun.

That is what put the HS2000 over the top. Right now, the XD remains one of the best choices for CCW, HD, or Duty carry... just like when it first came to the US. Hmmm... maybe not just like... I like some of the improvements... the Rail is a nice touch for those who need a tac light... the stainless slide option is nice too... and I think the overall design has just been improved thanks to maybe some better quality control? Not sure, but the new ones do feel better to me than the old ones.

That being said... between the XD and the CZ... it's a coin toss. Heads, tails... both win.

I like XDs. They fit my hand a lot better than Glocks and they point better for me. The trigger`s not half bad either. That said CZs have a charm all their own. Their reliability is legendary the world over. If you asked elite forces from every country in the world to list several handguns they`d want to take into combat the CZ-75 is probably the only handgun that would be on every list. Might I suggest a compromise, since you like the light rail and tactical look and feel of the XD. Check out a CZ PO-1. It`s the official sidearm of the Czech national police and had to pass testing up to 5 times as tough as the US military`s! They`re accurate, reliable and have an integral lightrail. Moreover if your hand is anything at all like mine the grip feels out of this world! Like it`s custom molded just for you. I just bought a CZ-40P (PO-1 frame with a CZ-40 slide) and I can`t get over how well it points and how it seems to almost lock itself on target. It`s a keeper! If you decide on an XD,that`s cool,it`s a fine weapon but you owe yourself a look at a PO-1. Marcus

BTW, that was no bash on the XD - I have handled them, but not fired one yet. CZs on the other hand I have firsthand knowledge thereof. Great, stellar, outstanding reliable accurate dependable darn good looking guns, and with Hakans' grips and Erics' holsters, the best darn thing going!
Do I sound a little biased?

I would go with the CZ, I liked the XDs a lot until my friend attended Springfield's shoot in Memphis, lets just say he came way less than enthusiastic -- he was pricing them online before the trip. There were a lot of problems with a lot of the models (of course these guns were being used by hundreds of people over two days). The CZ is a great gun with excellent ergonomics. But like everyone says you probably will be happy with either.

Grayrider,

I have never been crazy about double action triggers, and while the CZs is pretty good I still don't like transitioning between DA/SA

I'm kinda curious why you wouldn't just shoot the CZ in SA? I don't like the transition myself but it has never come up with my CZs.

Oh not another CZ vs ??? thread.....you guys ought to know that no other gun is close to CZ's..........right? :D

Actually both are first rate guns.......the XD is a shooter........12 Volt and Bil both have them and sware by them....

I shoot both well........but my heart and history are with CZ.......so Ill jump in with both feet yet another time.

Shoot well.

While I have no experience with the XD I have a lot of experience with CZ. For me the CZ is the most comfortable natural pointing pistol I have. If anything feels like an extension of my hand it is the CZ and I can shoot the CZ better than my 1911s. Out of the box they have been more reliable than the other pistols that I own. You won't go wrong if you get one.

Man. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the pointer on the P-01. I think I'm sold on it. I wanted a CZ, but I was missing the "tactical" part of it. I think the P-01 will fit the bill. I'm kind of excited. I was all sold on the XD, but now I have something new and different to look into. Thanks everyone! :D

CZ vs XD

I have a CZ 9 mm and it is a very accurate pistol, shoots reliably, feeds everything, no problems in 3 years of ownership.

I would still look into the XD especially if it feels right. The pistol is getting to have a very large following.

Shoot both if you can and decide the right way.

One thing I am liking about the XDs is the option of swapping mags between them. The 40/357 mags work fine in 9mm, and give you 15 round capacity. So as I will soon have XDs in all three calibers, that gives me a pool of six mags that interchange between them. Of course full cap CZ mags are not expensive either. Since you don't get to CCW, it would be a toss-up really. The thing I don't like about the P-01 is that the decocker requires pulling the trigger. Not a good habit IMHO, but those that have them sure seem to love them!
