Yes - yes it is!

I wish .45acp hadn't climbed so much in price ...
I am just glad there are people who can afford those guns so we at least get to look at them. :D

One of the best buys I've ever made was the CZ75BD and the .22 Kadet kit. Two guns on the same frame. A couple hundred 9mm and 500 .22 will give you a great time at the range. Well under your price point. Maybe even the stainless 75.

My next gun, and if I was sitting on 1100 I would buy it tomorrrow

honestly, you can't go wrong with a sig, hk, glock and MANY other brands that have a good record

now you just have to narrow it down to which gun you feel most comfortable using. go down to the gunshop and hold some :)

Main things to look for:
good sized grips
comfortable mag release
Is the safety in a good place for your hand?
are parts readily available in your area?
and how does the accuracy compare to other guns?

my personal picks would be a sig p220 or an HK USP fullsize

the caliber choice is up to you :)

hope that helped :D

What about the CZ 75 SP-01? The 20 round capacity is amazing! This meets all of your requirements except the 2 tone. I absolutely love my CZs and have had my eye on this one for awhile.

+1 on the 229. I love the way it shoots. I have the .40 barrel and the 9mm conversion barrel and enjoy being able to shoot .40 and 9mm at the range and have it loaded with .40 hp ammo for home defense. I'll be picking up a 357sig barrel for it soon.

the 357 barrels run between 140-170 depending on where you find them.
the 9mm conversion barrel from bar-sto is about 199.

You mentioned you could only shoot a rifle in the pistol calibers...

Why not get a pistol and a carbine?
example:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=81358958

You could probably squeeze a beretta storm in .40 or 9mm and a Beretta/Glock/XD/Sig CPO out of that 1100. (plus interchangable mags w/ the berettas) If it's gonna be tight, go for the less expensive hi-point carbine and the pistol of your choice.

That way, you get 2 guns and the increased versatility of the long gun and hand gun.

Don't pussyfoot around. Get a Glock.

I believe the saying was , "Lose that nickel plated sissy pistol - get yourself a glock." as he handed back the Taurus PT-945 ....

Don't get me wrong, glocks are fine shooters, and I shoot them well, but they simply have a bad grip angle. If I am pulled down on a bad guy, my natural point of aim would have the round go center mass, but the pistol itself would have the round going either into their throat or into their head.

Well, back in the mid 90's when I was a sworn officer, I had put a round through someone's throat simply because of that. A 13 year old to boot. He fired 3 rounds at me - I fired two. First one missed, second hit his throat resulting in a mushroomed round pushing one of his vertebrae out the back of his neck. He was dead before he started falling to the ground.

Next time - God forbid - I'd like to be able to say that when my natural point of aim is at someone's chest that my round will go there without having to worry whether or not my wrist is torqued forward far enough. When the chit hits the fan I want to concentrate on what my target is doing, not on my wrist!

Now the Beretta idea - not a bad idea at all - BUT - my experience with Beretta has been somewhat of a rusty tale.. Yes - RUST... Maybe I got one with a piss-poor finish, but the slide of my last 92FS got a layer of surface rust every time I carried. If I get another Beretta it would have to be an Inox, which I believe will take the Beretta pistol and carbine combo out of my price range.. Great idea though, as I LOVE shooting the CX4 Storm!

What about the CZ 75 SP-01? The 20 round capacity is amazing! This meets all of your requirements except the 2 tone.

I'll have to handle one - my local shop didn't have one available when I went in and fondled the CZ75B Stainless.. I have to say though, if the grip feels anything like the regular 75B - I might have to melt like butter when I get it in hand! My concern about that high capacity mag would be the grip length making it hard to conceal - very sexy looking weapon for an all black model though!

Anyone with experience with this "Poly-coat" - I take it this is something similar to a polymer "Skin" , or like Duracoat/Gunkote ? If that's the case, I could get the slide done up in a stainless Duracoat job.

I've done some basic pricing on the SP-01 and the P-01 - if I played my cards right and found the right deals I could maybe squeeze BOTH of them into the $1100 if I opted out of the night sights that are available on both... If I went that route and could get NS on just one, it would probably be the P-01.

Got one better for you: Kel-tec Sub 2000 carbine

http://www.impactguns.com/store/kel_tec_sub2000.html

4 different variants: one that'll take Glock, Sig, SW or Beretta mags. So, pick up the handgun of your choice from that list, the carbine for ~$300 and have interchangeable mags and STILL 2 guns.

can't be beat if you're on a restricted "diet". haha.

CZ question for ya - if - for some off reason I happened to buy TWO CZ75Bs, one in polycoat and the other in Satin Nickel or Stainless - could I swap slides on the two, or would the fit be different? You know - to give it that two tone look?

Glock 23. 14 round capacity, short & consistent trigger pull, plenty accurate, stone reliable... 16-round capacity with next size up mag for home defense etc.

I've got a lot of really awesome and much more expensive guns than my Glock 23, but the G23 is THE gun I'd suggest for what you're asking... and you'll save yourself a lot of money. Long DA pulls really suck in my opinion as do DA/SA autos. The 23 is a really sweet gun with the right mix of size, weight, capacity, versatility, shootability, reliability, durability, accuracy, and price. A couple of inexpensive mods will make it really nice. (Lighter connector, polished parts, night sights.)

Well, I made my purchase today!

I found a grand total of maybe 10 cz handguns at the whole show! The P-01 was nice, but I wasn't going to pay the prices the seller wanted. Same with the other few CZs - they were way higher than I could find locally.

No sig elites to be found - PERIOD.

Very few two tone sigs - of those that I found, they were all P220s...

So... >SIGH< I had to settle...

P226Blackwater.gif

P226Blackwater2.gif

I found what probably was the deal of the show... $725 OUT THE DOOR for a Sig P226 Blackwater... What's wrong with it? Nothing - NOTHING - I just got back from the range after having put 300 rounds through it!

I picked it up from a private seller. It only had 4 mags with it though instead of the 5 that it would have had new... but did have a set of Hogue wrap-around finger-groove grips in addition to the wood blackwood grips. Oh yes - and there was this piece of paper in the case - I think it said WARRANTY CARD on it or something to that effect :)

I spent $40 on a leather IWB holster as well.

I don't think I did too bad - did I?

you did well.I bought my wife(wouldn't want that marine training to waste) a police trade in p226. man is it a garbage disposal gobbles anything you feed it and spits em right down the pipe into the middle of the paper.

Nice haul. :D

So you got four magazines instead of five, a set of spare Hogue grips instead of the factory plastic, and a warranty? For $725?

Well, I can't find anything to complain about. Except this nagging feeling of missing out.

I was going to join the chorus and suggest a 229 Elite (or SAS). Oh well, looks like you already bought. Great choice.

I have a regular 226 in 9mm and it is a great gun. I may sell it soon but that is because I have 2 full-sized 9mm service pistols and I can use the money, and it will fetch more money than my CZ (plus, I may sell it at a discount to a friend who had his house broken into while he and his wife were home and he's thinking a gun and some training may be a good idea in case it happens again and the intruder isn't bothered by some yelling). I love my 226 and my 229 and the only thing I'd do differently is get the 226 in .40 (I'm getting into .40 pretty heavily right now, and I already had a "hi-cap" 9). That 226 is also pretty small for a full-sized service pistol so it is somewhat concealable while also being a great range pistol. You did good.

Nice find!

On the CZs, you can get the slides refinished in what ever color you want. I have seen green, tan, satin etc. They look really sharp. Over at the CZ forums there is a wealth of info with some neat offerings on grips and accessories. I picked up a NIB CZ 40P a few years ago at a gun show for $264. This is an amazing gun for the price. No one knew much about them a few years back. You can still find them for around $300-350 if you are lucky.

Don't take 1100 dollars into a gunshow and buy a 1000+ dollar gun, that would be foolish. You can get a great Sig, SZ, XD, BHP, etc for much lower a price (that will shoot just as well) and spend the rest on ammo and magazines.

How many rounds had you put through your Glock during practice? I'm curious as to why this would have occurred if you were familiar with the characteristics of the way the gun operated in your hands. My intention is not to flame you at ALL (and as an aside, I thank you for your service and am glad the situation ended without you being harmed), but it would seem that if your Glock shot high you would have noticed this during routine training/practice.

Of course, I have never been in a SD situation and for all I know you were just point shooting under stress. But I would think that after sufficient experience with the weapon, you would have expected the round to impact above the POA and would have compensated accordingly. But all's well that ends well!

Best,
Rob
