Is $725 overprised for a used and supposedly unfired Yugo M70AB2?

Your thoughts on this Yugo AK47?

Any idea on how I can find out when this rifle was mfg. and I am a little concerned why it was never fired?, most folks can't wait to shoot a new gun, so what's up with that.

I have an M70AB2 virgin parts kit, and can't assemble it in my state...so i was thinking about finding it a new home yesterday; the prices listed on gunbroker are 400-450; totally unassembled, no receiver, etc. Of course, those are hopeful prices, not actual...but might help give you an idea...time and effort to assemble might equal 300...not to me...

any mags with it? extras?
 
Not Sure.

I will see the rifle tomorrow and see what it comes with.

If you want an AK, buy cheap...get a Saiga or a WASR if you don't want to invest the time to convert it. Want something nicer that is AKish and shoots the same round, find a VZ-58, still for less than the Yugo that you found. Spend the extra cash on ammo. :)
 
they're hovering around $500 or so right now. That's about as much as I'd pay for one.
 
I have a Norinco NHM-91 that I purchased for $600. There are actually several of them listed on Gunbroker.com right now for less than that. They have a longer and heavier barrel than a regular AK and somewhat resemble an RPK. I think they may be somewhat more accurate than a regular AK - regular AK barrels are pretty thin.

I have the very similar M70AB2T (slight difference in the front trunnion). It's a nice rifle, put together well, nicely finished, and reliable. Quite a bit nicer than the Romanian rifles. I surprised at how pleasant it is to shoot, since it's an underfolder.

As for the recommendation to get a VZ-58 instead of a nicer AK -- that's dumb. Just because a rifle is an AK doesn't mean that it should be expected to be a POS. The Century Yugos are nice rifles, as are Norincos, properly converted Saigas or Bulgarian AKs from Arsenal.

IME, the AKs are more pleasant to shoot than my folding stock VZ-58, which whack me on the cheek. Also, AK parts and magazines are much more common.

Well, I'll say it...ALL AK's are a POS! There!

Funny how this statement boils the blood of some... you'll read on here someone saying 'X' is a POS and few turn an eye to it, say the AK is the same... and God save the queen, war on!

The AK is one of the very best assault rifle type platforms ever conceived by the human race!
Primarily designed to provide reliability, ease of use, little training on how to be effective with it, its operation and maintenance and....as ruisky doctrine dictates, to provide the user with the means to put a wall of lead in the general direction of the enemy.

What's not to like about the AK?

I think the $725 is a bit steep for the Yugo....say, no more than $600 OTD. would be more like it. As per our AK god here at the shop...he thinks he's Makail's brother or something!

I have heard that the Yugo AK's are better than the Romanian ones....I do not know much about the various AK's...which ones are better than the other, and I plan to open a thread asking all the AK aficionados about this.

An AK expert...hehehe. Now I have heard it all. Everyone needs one because of the "special" skills, expertise, and tooling (big hammer...and a chisel) needed to work on one. :D
 
I bought (2) yugo underfolders 2-3 years ago. Took them out of their box and put them in the safe. I haven't shot either. I predicted the Democrats were ready to take over again and the yugo's were an investment. I paid $500.00 apiece for them. Right after Obama took over and some of his cronies started running their mouths about gun control they shot up in value. The initial fear of new constricting gun control laws seems to have subsided for the time being. Thus, prices are falling again for so-called assault weapons. The yugo's are nicely made ak's (akm). Heavier recievers and tight actions. I wish I had bought one of the full wood stocked yugo's...I do not like firing underfolders at all. I hate the cold steel on the side of my cheek. Everyone has their preference and opinions. I would buy a saiga and convert it if you wish to use original magazines and other goodies like a pistol grip, folding stock ...ect. Saigas are russian made, new manufacture, AK's which are very affordable. I think they are better constructed than my Romanian ak's. I'm not trying to bash anybody's romanian ak...I'm just offering an opinion. Hell, Uncle Mike called all AK's "POS"! :eek:

Those are two beautiful M70s :what: . I've had them in the past and wish now that I still had them. Plus everyone is so bent on the Saiga thing right now I would buy a M70 just to have something different :rolleyes: . I've seen hundreds and customizations of Saigas of all kinds never impressed. And the VZ's and the plastic triggers. . not even going to go there.
 
I did notice one of my yugo underfolders came with a Tapco g3 trigger. Both of these were ordered from Century Arms and I found it curious they chose to replace the original trigger. The last time I looked Nugilum the full stocked yugos were bringing more money on Gunbroker.com compared to the underfolders.
 
What...atlanticfire...you don't like saigas? Okay, I'll admit I ignored them for years also. Then they brought out the 16.5 308 on the AK platform. I loved the first one so much I purchased a backup. But I could'nt stop there so I bought (3) more. On top is a Saiga-12. The middle two are Saiga-308's and below is a Saiga 7.62x39. Those 16.5 inch barreled 308's are pure beasts. Great fun to shoot.

It appears I have strayed from the OP's original topic and polluted this thread with damn saigas. My bad!

Its not that I don't like Saigas. I don't have anything bad to say about there quality. I'm just saying that’s what everyone seams to be dragging around these days, especially the 7.62x39 and I don't see it. The M70s are good rifles, just as good as any Saigas. M70s just have a certain look and feel about them that makes them different.

Last December during the obama frenzy, I fell into it myself and bought the last 2 Yugo underfolders at the gun show. The A-hole selling them raised the price from $699 to $750, After some words, and some guys behind me saying they would pay the $750 if I didn't, I bouight them.

I got to the truck and started feeling really stupid.

That said, the Century ones have stainless bolts, brand new match grade US made barrels, and a new Tapco trigger. Even though I paid too much, I really like them and I think the Century M70 is the best value in AK's.

I overpaid, but I am happy with the Yugo's.
 
I just got my Century M70ab2 and cleaned the barrel...reddish/brown paste was all over my patches for 2+hrs and still not all gone,but fading..Any ideas on what it could be? Should not be cosmoline,because these are new US barrels,not milsurp barrels?

I am not positive, but I believe they still use commie barrels, it is likely cosmoline. Use carb. cleaner for removal.

Depends on when the parts kits were imported. Back in '06 the ATF changed their position on parts kits importation and declared that barrels would no longer be allowed to be imported uncut. So, many of the AKs being rebuilt here are now shipping with barrels made in the US.

Having said that, hours of scrubbing and still getting out reddish brown goop sure sounds like cosmoline...

Not surprising, Century likes to change things around to make it a little more complicated (least they are using Tapco FCG on some rifles now). :rolleyes:

thanx guys...i like the thought of it being cosmoline and not rust.
What would a barrel that was shot with corrosive ammo and not cared for look like?
