Keep receipts and/or any other pertinent documentation, in case they dont take your word that you did install the necessary compliance parts.

Another crappy issue is- If you bought a part that was supposed to be "made in USA", and even says so on the receipt but in fact isn't made in the USA, you are in violation.

When the ATF gets a hold of your gun for "inspection" they don't just look it over. They will tear it down and scrutinize everything to villain-ize the gun owner. Make sure your made in the USA parts actually say "USA on it somewhere.

Yes it is worth being anal about your freedom if you play the 10 parts or less game. :(

No, it wouldn't. Read lower.
My apologies for pointing in the wrong direction. I had looked at this site extensively when I was looking at modifying a Chinese SKS, and lost sight of the fact that we're talking about a Yugo here.

Nothing on the C/R staus of the Yugo sks prevents one from replacing parts with newly-made ones of similar construction (new wood stock, new gas parts, etc). The ATF has ruled the spring-returned firing pin is A-OK also as it enhances safety. Optics are OK, and you can pop off the grenade laucher IF you cap the threaded barrel with a soldered cover or break. The bayonet can go also, but the mount needs to stay.

No, you can't just pop on a 20 round mag, tapco synthetic stock, etc----but YOU CAN put on a scope lose the bayo and the heavy grenade launcher.\

No problem. It's very easy to not notice the nationality of the rifle in question, and I've answered Chinese SKS questions with Yugo-specific info before. Oopsie. These regulations really are insane.

As for "who would arrest me for this," the consensus view I have seen from folks is that the ATF isn't likely to inspect every SKS they see for 922r violations. However, if you become the subject of an investigation for whatever reason (even if you are completely innocent), you can bet your rear that they'll be trotting that one out at you. It would be more of a tack on charge (or the equivalent of nailing Al Capone for tax evasion), but it still isn't worth chancing it. Follow the law, no matter how insane or foolish it may be. Invest your efforts in getting Congress to change the law so future generations don't have to beat their heads against the wall on this one.
