My other thread was closed so I couldn't update it. See it here.

Nothing ever came from Federal about the ammo. They supposedly tested the rest of the box last week or the week before that but they never got back with me.

Ruger finally received the Gun and after a few days they called me at 6:30am this Morning and told me they are replacing the Gun and where did I want it sent to. It'll supposedly be shipped today.

They would not give me any info to what the fault was but I am pretty sure it was a fault of the ammo.

I'm glad it's over but I do not have a warm and fuzzy feeling concerning Federal.

Awesome that they are replacing the gun for you. Pretty cool move for a company that many deride for not having a posted warranty. Glad that worked out for you.

In your shoes, I think I would push for an answer from either or both of them. Both of their reputations are potentially tarnished by this. It's in both of their best interests to find the cause, if nothing else than to ease a nervous customer's mind.

typical rockstar service

Ruger has never, in my 12 years of being in the gun business, failed to quickly rectify a product satisfaction/ customer service issue. They go out of their way to fix guns that were made more than forty years ago (note the transfer bar upgrade ad in EVERY Ruger owner's manual) as well as replace products that clearly were caused by bad ammo. To compare this situation to Glock replacing KB'd G22 & G23 guns would be comparing apples to oranges. The former is a solid casting of stainless steel whilst the latter was a plastic 9mm frame supporting a .40S&W cartridge... recipe for disaster until .40 ammo started being loaded softer, IIRC.

At any rate, kudos to you sir. And VIVA RUGER PISTOLAS!!! :D

So by replacing the gun they put an end to the inquires and do what corporations do, bury any bad publicity or proof of fault by either the gun or ammo company.

Ruger has a very long history of fixing or replacing things that failed through no fault of theirs. Long before the Interwebz.

Great news,I am not surprised ruger is replacing it,they have a great customer service reputation even when the failure is not thier fault.

That's pretty impressive for Ruger to send you a new gun even though the odds are about 100% that the problem was with the ammo.

I wonder if Ruger has worked something out with Federal behind the scenes to reimburse them for the loss.

Thanks for posting the update. Good to know that Ruger made things right with you.

So, exactly what more do you think they should do?

Wear sackcloth and pour ashes over their heads?

To the OP. Glad you weren't hurt, and that Ruger has stepped up and replaced your gun.

Glad you got a new gun and your not hurt. I'd press Federal for a answer on the ammo. They may not respond anyway. Manufactures do have bad runs of what they make. QC sometimes misses screw ups. Ask federal for a credit on the ammo you bought and returned. They may send you something.

It depends what they tell the OP, if Ruger says nothing and just replaces the gun, well I can't say I'd be all that comfortable pulling the trigger on the new gun.

Oh I am gonna shoot it..

But I'm taking my Kevlar gloves and my Full face shoei mc helmet along with me.
At least for the first few rounds anyways. :):what:

I bet you had quite an experience with your kaboom!

Most of us would be excusing ourselves to check our britches.

After reading about this adventure I don't think I'll be buying any Federal ammo, the fact that they're not even communicating is Not A Good Sign.

Because I'd want to know what happened.
I,too, would want to know what happened. I would be uncomfortable firing my next round of Federal Ammo. That kaboom was an ammo problem. If he had said he was using hand loads every response would have been over charge or wrong powder or maybe under charge with something like W296 or H110. I am glad the OP came through that with no injuries.

He was fortunate that Ruger went above and beyond and replaced the 101. Colt or S&W would have told him to take the matter up with Federal.

Federal is happy Ruger replaced the revolver and hoping they have heard the last of this.

OP has a fine new revolver that will give him and his kids and grandkids many years of service, provided he don't run across any more faulty ammo.

And last but not least I would not be the least bit afraid to fire the first few rounds provided they weren't Federal with the same lot #.

There's not enough room in the case to double charge a load with a magnum handgun powder.
A different, faster burning powder had to be used.

I witnessed a kaboom a few weeks ago in a Smith revolver. The guy was a handloader. There was little doubt the cause was a loading error. The gun was a Smith 627.
