Have you ever broken a Ruger handgun?

Well the testimony sure shows rugers to be rough and tough that is for sure. Here is another:)

Was hanging out at the shop and this guy comes in with a real sad look on his face. He hands over a p95 with the slide stuck half way. we look at it and ask him if he was sooting reloads. He said "yes, I got them from a friend, how did you know" Well, logn story short, he had a sqip load and when it didn't feed the next round he racked the slide and touched off the next one. We all agreed he learned a VERY valuable lesson that day. After a stern lecture and showing him some rifles, handguns and x-rays of gnarled up hands with odd metal chunks under the skin the shop owner exchanged the pistol out for new one since the guy had just bought it that morning.

We took the dead ruger to the back and beat it apart. It was amazing, the only visible damage was a buldge in the barrel. Other than that, the gun looked flawless. Man, if it were any other gun I think it would have come unglued and messed that guy up bad. We ended up tagging the gun as unusable and added it to the training stock.

Rugers sure have thier place.

Last Thursday i bought a used speed six, it looked in excellent condition, as said, it had less than 200 round in its life... but after 20 .357 shots, the canon just blow away.... guys at the gun shop were surprised, seems like the metal had some air (?)... i just hope that ruger can fix it, or give me a good offer for a new lcr.... pretty disappointing, I had a lot of expectations about it......

Is a 12 year old resurrected zombie thread a record?

:)

I'm thinking "canon" is barrel?

Ruger does not repair or support the Six Series anymore. Sorry.

GP 100, got so worn that the cylinder would fling out every shot with .357. ruger quoted 190$ just to look at it, so i replaced all the springs, and its fine now. This GP was made in 89 though. Standard MK3, wore out the extractor- common problem, and had the loaded chamber indicator blow out the side of the gun from out of battery detonation twice, but it still fired. The gun shop i used to go to had a blown super blackhawk, but that was a double charge, so really does not count.

Busted the extractor on a 10/22 . The magazine on my RARR is a piece of crap but I live with it. Bent the transfer bar on one of my Vaquero's once. Fixed that myself. Broke the plunger on the hammer in another. My RPR had a bent barrel when I bought it. They gave me a whole new rifle. They still owe me $60 for transfer fees.

I broke my Ruger Mk II 22 caliber pistol and Ruger replaced the broken part for free.

This gun has had thousands and thousands of rounds through it and finally the bolt retaining pin sheared. I sent the assembly to Ruger and they replaced it.

I've noticed a lot of reports of loose parts when they are brand new, but they do pump out countless arms every year. Otherwise, I've had good luck with Ruger pistols.

Yeah, when I bought a first generation .40 cal pistol, the slide lock would shoot loose and launch itself on occasion. After about a year, the problem went away for some reason.

Yikes, this is a scary old thread! Anyways, from my own personal experience and having owned (and still own), a number of Ruger handguns; no, I have not broken or heard of any of my friends Rugers having been broken.

The closest I can come to a Ruger "fix it" story was a friend of mine had a .44 Magnum Vaquero which had the barrel installed incorrectly, so much so that the front sight was severely canted to the the right. Ruger made a new barrel from bar stock (they no longer had any barrels for that discontinued model), installed it, and then polished the entire gun (stainless steel), so both the barrel and the rest of the gun would look the same.

the screw that hold the ejector rod housing snapped causing the rod and housing to fly back and hit me in the forehead. " what to :cuss: was that?" i shoot mild 44 mags to heavy 44 spl. easy fix and back in action for some 7 or 8 years now. love my ruger revolvers.

Any handgun ever made can be broken. Ruger is no different. They are heavy duty and over built but they absolutely can be broken. NEVER EVER trust a "decocker" to lower the hammer without firing the gun. Treat it just like you intended to fire it. Every time. There have been several cases of cops shooting suspects AFTER they were subdued while they "de cocked" their sidearm. The "de cocker" function was almost as bad an idea as the magazine disconnect safety that has led to so many NDs only because so many people assume that all semi auto pistols are "safe" when the mag is removed. Some are - some aren't. These same people assume that a de cocker will never fail. They have and they do.

A Ruger Mark II broke on me last year. The weld that held the bolt ears to the slide broke and the bolt ear came flying off and smacked me in the lip. Scared the you know what out of me!
Ruger sent me a replacement bolt that is a one piece (off a MK III I believe) free of charge.

Yes, I suppose you could say I broke one. I shot one enough that it required a trip back to the factory and parts replacement twice.

I am not sure that means it was broken: parts wear out with use.

The gun was a Single Six. When I got it, it was at least third hand. I shot it all the time. I would estimate that I might have averaged 500 rounds a week for maybe 10 years before I had problems with it. Ruger fixed it. No big deal and I proceeded to do it again. The second time I had to send it back, I got it back and traded it in on a new one. So, obviously I was satisfied with the other one.

This thread is so old that I might have posted this before. But I am not going back and reading through all the posts to find out.

I sent a Ruger SP101 back a couple years ago. The pawl spring and pawl were bad, allowing it to spin occasionally when it should have been locked up. They replaced the pawl and spring with no complaints, even though I bought it used.

ETA: I even asked for and received free shipping both ways!

I have a 4" Security Six I bought used. Never a problem. I have a Redhawk I bought used. Never a problem. Stuff happens, anything can break. Ruger is a great company that stands behind their stuff well. It will be interesting to see what options Ruger gives you.

People have probably broken every brand of gun out there.

I have never had any gun break. Not yet anyway. I need to shoot more, apparently.

-I have had a couple guns that did not perform satisfactorily, from a reliability standpoint, from the factory, but I consider that different.

I wore the hammer&trigger out on a 1967 357 Blackhawk back in the 70s. Too much "quick draw" and fanning. Replaced them and it's still a good shooter today.

Broken Ruger firearms? I could tell you about the two that came to me brand new broken. One of which had to be sent back to Ruger twice before they replaced it.

Or I could tell you about my carry gun. The one that sat on my hip all day for two weeks straight until I decided to fire it. I got one shot out and the firing pin came flying out the back of the slide hitting me in the face.

I'm done with Ruger. In the past they have made some great firearms, I do not believe their quality control is anywhere near what it used to be.

I broke an lc9 firing pin retaining pin. Replaced for free with 2 day shipping.

I had a clock spring break in a vaquero. Replaced for free with 3 day shipping.

Just shipped an SR 1911 in for 3- point jams. Shipping to ruger 2nd day for free.

The firing pin retaining pin broke in two, flew out and hit my shoulder on the lc9. It was done. Not good for a carry gun with 200 rounds through it.....
