I do agree that local law enforcement could put the firearms and ammo to good use.

Family members set to inherit a stockpile of guns and ammunition, worth millions of dollars, plan to destroy the weapons "to send a message," their attorney Daniel Brookman told ABC News today.

The problem with "messages" is that they can be interpreted a lot of different ways. My interpretation of this message is "we are elitist morons of the Hollywood variety".

IIRC a finance measure introduced in Congress directs the .Gov to destroy the last 100,000 1911's stored at the CMP's.

The measure was reputedly inserted by John McCain.

Not the only guns getting scrapped - yet no mention of it here yet. Just some other guys collection that he didn't adequately direct disposal of gets a thread. The lesson here is that you never know what will happen to that rack of guns unless YOU take care of it while you can. He apparently failed. Take that to heart.

I wonder if destroying the guns gets them some rax relief on their inheritance tax?

I've known folks that have done some screw, legal, things to avoid taxes.

Assuming some or most of the collection, it will be a shame but it is their property.

They're obviously wealthy enough that destroying "millions of dollars" in assets doesn't phase them.

Their inheritance, their decision. However, based on prior erroneous media escalation of just about everything, I'm hesitant to even believe the announced value. I'm really sad about what some aspects of this society have become, especially the inimical divide between the haves and have nots, where spokespersons have to make announcements for the engorged.

This is good news. This will take money out of the Hoplophobes hands while increasing the rarity of any collection that THR members are holding. What a wonderful day for the person holding one of two known examples of a rare firearm when they find out the other one got destroyed. Time to go to auction.

OldMac is right. I've just learned elsewhere that although the deceased's collection is mainly mil-surp, there was mil-surp and that there were some rare examples in it.

It bothers me that these examples won't be saved.

After discovering the man’s body on Friday, Los Angeles police investigators found more than 1,200 firearms and about two tons of ammunition inside his fiancée’s Pacific Palisades home.

LAPD Capt. William Hayes, who heads the department’s Robbery-Homicide Division, said the private gun collection was worth at least $500,000 and possibly more than $1 million.

“He was either into doomsday survivalism, gun collecting or both,” Hayes said, adding that the man appeared to be wealthy.

LAPD Deputy Chief Kirk Albanese said the man was a collector and there was no evidence he ever sold weapons or was a licensed firearms dealer.

After all, that $250,000.00 being stashed with the "stockpile" of evil firearms, obviously became contaminated with the horrible disease, Gunitis."

The money must be burned (at the stake) if they can arrange it properly.

While there, he got in a wreck and damaged four cars, later paying off the damages himself. His Sunset Mesa property manager said that Lash drove a new vehicle almost every month and never had license plates.

Crazy, and no one knows how he accumulated his wealth.

Some updates since then -

Just today, its being reported that his ex fiancé is now laying claim to the guns, ammo, and cars. She's saying she financed it all; forced to by physical abuse and threats that if she didn't, the secret govt would harm people she knows.

She apparently owns quite a bit of real-estate rental property in the LA area. She had her property manager rent garages to store all the cars for him under the guise that they were for other secret govt people to be able to use.

Both, the ex fiancé & her property manager have said they believed he was part alien / part human and work as a secret govt agent thwarting terrorism.

The property manager also left her new husband of 1 year after meeting the dead guy. He says she drastically changed after meeting the dead guy just once. Maybe that was in his best interest.

The lawyer in the OP for the family and the ex fiancés original (maybe still) lawyer have both represented celebrities such as Timothy Leary and Robert Downey Jr.

The whole thing is bizzare.
