Tikka T3?

He's talking suppresor, not muzzle break. If the restrictions on suppressors are removed, and chances are decent they will then that is a viable option. Currently it takes a long time and is fairly expensive in my book to get a suppressor.

I agree Sako/Tikka actions are some of the very best in a factory rifle. If you compare rifles in the same price range I think the Vanguard is just as good as Tikka. The best of anything is hard to quantify.
 
I really really like my T3 in 7-08. I gave my 7MM Mag to my son. Great rifle but I just don't like shooting the Mag anymore. The T-3 in 7-08 is a pussy cat. And very accurate. BTW it has a muzzle brake as well.
 
My brother has a Tikka T3 in 300 Win Mag. He's taken deer and elk with it, and has nothing but good things to say about it. I'm looking forward to getting a Tikka myself, but other guns have taken priority over it up until now. The Tikka will be my next.
 
with the heavy kickers i use a lead sled to work up loads and sight it, three shoots to confirm zero before hunting and i,m ready to go, and when shooting at game recoil has never bothered me. i run some very light rifles in spot and stalk hunts. eastbank.
 
I have a lefty in 308 and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Accuracy is phenomenal and the handling is great as well.

Hey, it is a Sako. Cheap Sako, but you should expect nothing else. That is like a Sig. I have sold several P2022 Sigs that are half the price of a P226 but they function very well.

I don't know if you've got your eye on a particular 7mm magnum T3, but if you don't, be advised that EuroOptic is currently running a sale on T3's and they have the Hunter model in 7mm Rem Mag or .270 Winchester listed at $498.

Did you use a prefitted Limbsaver pad or a "grind to fit" type?

If it was the prefitted type, how well did it fit and can you recall the part/model number?
 
I love my tikka. I will never part with it and I have absolute trust in it. A T3 is the only gun I can think of that I prefer the synthetic stock over the wood. The wood stocks on the tikkas are pretty much utility wood and don't really add anything to the gun to me. The plastic stocks on the tikkas are the nicest plastic stocks I've ever handled. Very stiff and the checkering is effective, they are very light and very tough. I like my pretty wood guns but the tikka is the one I drag through the brush with me
 
I'll bet they will as a factory replacement but will be very expensive I'm sure. I would look on eBay and gun broker. People sell them when they restock

Thanx for the heads up swampman! I'm still a few weeks away from buying. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll still be running the sale. That's $60 less than the best deal I've found so far.

I took delivery of a "Hunter" in 6.5x55 last week along with an extended 5 round magazine.

I haven't shot it yet (still have to get dies), but I'm very impressed with the rifle in general. The trigger is far better than anything I've gotten on a factory rifle in decades and the bolt has less "wobble" than anything else I own, including a couple of Sakos. It doesn't feel particularly smooth in operation, but that should improve once it's been cycled a few hundred times.

I'm not a big fan of plastic on rifles, but the plastic parts don't stand out and scream CHEAP as is so often the case.

The only real negatives to me are the single stack magazine and the so called recoil pad.

Considering all the positive features, I can live with the magazine and the recoil pad is a simple enough fix.

I'll be the first to admit that the recoil pad on a T3 is not impressive. However, the Swede is not a shoulder-pounder either. I'm gonna suggest shooting the rig first before going to the expense of putting an accessory recoil pad on it. I've got a steel buttplate on my Swede & it's just fine, but my wood stocked Swede probably does weigh more than a synthetic T3. OTOH, my ought-6 synthetic T3 wears it's original factory recoil pad & I still shoot it.

Mine is 25-06 which is about the same power factor as the swede, I doubt you will have any complaints on recoil.

Back before I had to get a reverse right shoulder replacement with a brand new titanium and cobalt chrome model, I thought a .378 Weatherby Magnum with full bore 300 grain loads was a great plinking/varmint rifle.
My usual whitetail medicine was a .338 Winchester Magnum.

Unfortunately, a botched rotator cuff surgery and Methicillin - resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), changed my whole outlook on what constitutes "heavy recoil".

You'd think that 5 surgeries, 14 weeks of IV antibiotics and a buttload of cash would give you at least SOME of the old "Six Million Dollar Man's" powers.

They do not.

I'm now more of a .257 Roberts Improved and 6.5x55 guy, and I'll do whatever I can to reduce recoil even on those (I intend to have my new Tikka threaded to take my .30 cal suppressor).

Strong as it is, titanium only wears out.
It does zero healing or regeneration.
For some strange reason, I have no desire to have any more surgeries.

I put a new bottom metal on my Tikka and now run AICS pattern magazines on it. Never been happier.

I doubt I'd like shooting a T3 Lite in 7mm mag, but mine in .243 is a joy to shoot and scary accurate. hdbiker

Google 'prolotherapy' instead.
 
I have a Lite in .300 WIN MAG and a Hunter in .260 REM. Both are sub-MOA with my reloads. The .300 is definitely a sharp/heavy recoiling rifle especially from the bench when testing loads, way more so than my Mauser 98 in .35 Whelen. My T3 .260 is my favorite bolt action, and I've owned Remingtons, Winchesters and some MILSURP rifles.

So you were able to simply swap out the bottom metal in the OEM stock and that allowed you to use the AICS style magazines?

I was aware that the T3 could be altered to take AICS mags, but I thought it was necessary to ditch the original stock and install an expensive chassis system.

What bottom metal did you use, and was it a reasonably simple DIY project?
