..... I sometimes wear my MUCK wetlands when deer hunting. Never got a deer (yet) while wearing them. Maybe this year I'll add some under armor stuff also.

11 month old Golden Retriever doing well on pheasants.

This morning. Being chased by a small 8 or 6 (couldn’t tell). He chased her to within 10 feet of my tree. Busted me at 10 feet and ran to 15 yards and looked back towards the buck. So I let the ole Matthews, GoldTip, and Swhackers do the rest.

Thanks guys. Just trying to fill my brothers freezer. It was him, my nephew and I this morning. I have the dumbest luck when it comes to deer hunting. I had planned to go hunt another ridge about 300 yards away. We were walking in together. Well about 200 yards into the woods, I realized I left my cellphone in the truck.
So I dumped my climber and bow, sent my brother and nephew on in to their stand (about another 200 yards in), and headed back to the truck. Grabbed my phone, walked back up the hill to my stand and bow, and thought I shouldn’t go further and blow their hunt (its daylight at this point). So I looked around and saw a tree down the hill about 30 yards that I could climb up. It was literally the only tree in that area I could get above 8 feet up.
Walked up, climbed up, and sat down. Text my brother and told him where I was. About 15 minutes later my brother text me and told me I had a buck and a doe heading my way. I thought “So? Not like I’ll see them”. Heard a deer running off to my right and here they came. “Well I’ll be damned”. He ran her up the hill behind me and she stopped, turned 90 degrees, jumped some lay downs, and headed right for me. I had already stood up when I saw them. Now she’s at 15 yards coming my way (remember I’m up a tree but down hill from her). We’re at eye level at 15 yards. So I reach for my bow and now she’s covered the distance to 10 feet. I literally have just taken my bow off the bow holder. I don’t have it up or my release on or anything. It’s just dangling out there in space.
She stops dead in her tracks. I can’t see her because she’s on the other side of the tree from me. But I know she’s got me pegged. And here I am holding bow off the side of my climber like a retarded matador with a hunchback and I can’t move. “Well this really sucks. Way to be prepared there, great white hunter” I think to myself. And then I see her head pop around the side of the tree. Yep. She’s looking right at me. And we just made eye contact. “Idiot! Why did you look at her!?” She busts out and I know she’s headed back from whence she came and then probably a little farther, but she only goes back up the hill to about 15 yards and turns broadside with her head behind a small tree. I can’t see anything but her body, neck, and ears, but I know she’s looking back towards the buck. “It’s now or never bud cause she’s about to flip you the white kiss of death”. I hook my release, draw, aim, and release, in about 3 seconds. She kicks, runs about 20 yards crashes into a tree, get up, crashes into another tree, and piles up. And the rest, as they say, is history.

No pictures of this years moose hunt I'm afraid. First days hunting was cold and clear,a stunning day to be out in the forest. 9 moose were picked up by the dogs. I saw a heifer at 200 mtrs under the power lines and the dog bayed a cow and calf at least 400 mtrs further down the power lines. a young member of our hunting team shot a calf. I did see 2 Capercaillie cocks fly over head, Capers are the worlds largest grouse.
A week later we were out again. The day was wetter than a wet thing but the dog did drive moose a couple of times. The last drive of the day i was under the power lines again and a 8 point bull stood 40 mtrs from me in a position that would have given an easy shot. It was a very even headed 8 pointer but we don't shoot bulls with horns between 4 & 8 points. The reason not to shoot 4-8 pointers is to try and raise the middle age of the bulls and this rule has led to a great improvement in the big bulls shot. Still he will be a 10 pointer or more next year.
The next hunting day i had to pick my daughter up from the airport as she was over for a long weekend to check on her dad. They did shoot a spikey young bull. Thursday evening it was all hands to butcher the moose and my freezer has a new supply of moose meat.
I told a fib as i did have a photo of some moose heads shot in a 30km area round our hunting ground. The leader of our hunting team boils out and prepares moose heads for hunters. You will see in the photo that some heads are 4-8 pointers. Sadly some hunters have no self control. At the prehunt briefing we were told anyone shooting a 4-8 pointer would have it cut into small bits.

Another solid win for my .300 BLK SBR and silencer:
17 5/8" spread, 8 points, 165 lbs. Poor guy was just chasing some does...
But, VA says today wasn't a doe day... so the big one here gets to go free... even though she stood around after he was shot (gotta love a can on a hunting rifle).

Yes they are. Like crazy. Sorry. Would have replied sooner. But my 14 year old nephew got his first deer ever yesterday. Was shooting his great grandfathers Remington Mowhawk in 243. He’s been trying for 4 years. Lots of disappointments. But not yesterday. It was a great day. And I’m thankful I was able to share in the memory.

I pulled sd cards yesterday and had over 400 pictures with several decent bucks. They are quitting the feeders, hitting the ridges for acorns and trolling for does. I made a 4 mile ride on the atv and saw 10 does. Our rifle season opens Saturday. Looks like it is going to be a good one. I love retirement.

Haven't been able to get out much this year. Friday was cold with lots of wind. Finally had some time away from work so went out to sit the last hour of the day.
This spike came in after 15 minutes in the tree. Shot him at 5.5 yards.

SLIM pickins here in the redneck riviera. Still hot (overnight lows in the mid 50's, sometimes low-60's) and VERY little day time movement. Bow season here started a month ago. Supposedly a rut occurs in Jan. Oh, well- I guess that's the price I pay for moving away from the cold with the rest of the old people!
