Caliber is 6mm BR Norma. Boltface is .484 (308), small rifle primer.

Since the Remington 308 bolt have large firing pin and usually their bolt have loose fit, I decided to buy a receiver only and an aftermarket bolt.

Remington 700 Short Action SS receiver.

The aftermarket bolt and firing pin assembly.

Small firing pin hole and small firing pin. Extractor cut is for M16 mini extractor.

Comparison of the aftermarket bolt (L) and stock Remington 700 bolt (R).

I'm going to need to see how it shoots. . . I have a rather hohum Rem 700 SA that's just asking for a Remage aftermarket barrel.

I like it, now cough up that parts list.

Receiver- https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...ucts_id/719004018/REM+700+SA+SS+RECEIVER+ONLY
Any Remington 700 receiver will do as long as the thread is unmodified.

Bolt - http://pacifictoolandgauge.com/remington-700-1-piece-bolts/9251-1-piece-short-action-sa-remington-700-bolt.html
You choose the firing pin size, bolt face, extractor cut, etc. The actual price will depend on your choices. Scroll down for instruction on determining the correct diameter of bolt for your receiver. If you don't have the necessary tools ( I don't), I think you will be safe with a diameter of .6990 to .6995" (mine is .6990). My 2 stock Remington bolts are .6950". Don't forget to order the ejector and extractor parts. Order all the items at the same time because their shipping is high.

Firing pin assembly- http://pacifictoolandgauge.com/remi...00-firing-pin-assembly-w-aluminum-shroud.html

Other receiver parts are OEM.- https://www.midwestgunworks.com/remington-model-700/parts.html . Also available at Brownells or Midway.

Barrel- I got mine from McGowen. Reason I chose McGowen is because I can order online ( I don't like ordering by phone) and they have more choices on the barrel contour.

If I have to do it again, I would probably try Northland Shooters Supply (Criterion barrel).
When ordering a barrel be sure to order the barrel nut and lug from the same vendor to insure that they all fit.
I got the barrel nut and lug from PTG (cheaper). The nut is very tight. It took me 3 hours to fit the nut to the barrel, using bore paste and oil, screwing in and out little at a time. The barrel fit to the receiver was fine but there were some tight spots. I also have to lap the internal diameter of lug, but that only took a few minutes. Also not happy with the finish of the barrel but I can live with that. :)

Bolt knob is from Ebay. Many sources of bolt knob depending on what you like.

Will probably take a while. Brass are out of stock at the moment and I don't have the reloading dies yet. Also still not decided on what trigger to buy.

This thread is very useful to those wanting to build, not buy, a personalized precision rifle. Thanks for taking the time to do these postings as a lot of folks don't really consider what goes into selecting the components and have problems visualizing how it all comes together as a project.

I rebuild old milsurps for fun and it is a somewhat similar project except my components are more or less chosen for me--I just have to find them and not screw up the re-assembly.

Lug alignment tool, head space Go gauge and scope rail.

BTW. The chamber neck diameter is .271 (no neck turn).

No visible space between the receiver and the scope base unlike my 2 other Remington 700. Will probably apply a thin bedding.

Video on how to install a Remage barrel.

thats a very well put together rifle!
I like the media blasted gray look, id probably do the receiver as well, but if you dont than polishing out the barrel with 320 should produce a look similar to your reciever.

Just watched the video, he makes the installation look easy. I have wondered though, how do you get the barrel markings (eg calibre) to line up with the receiver while maintaining headspace? Surely the barrel OEM cannot do this since receivers will have slightly different tolerances.

I have built a 6mmBR on a Rem700 twice and once on a Sav 99.
One Rem 700 was with a sniper stock and Krieger bull barrel... very heavy
The other Rem 700 was with a Bansner stock and pacnor barrel... light as I could make it.

None were as fancy as yours.
And my pics are not as good either.

Your barrels are much better than mine. :)

Thank you
Will leave the finish as is. Would like to know how it shoots first.

Indexing the markings is an issue with Remage barrels. Mine is between 11:00 and 12:00 o'clock (from the butt).

I love the 6mmBR.
1) I like the small primer pocket... that makes the CCI 550 small magnum rifle primer be the weak spot in a load work up. But if you have primers with holes in them, be prepared to take the Rem700 bolt apart to remove a handful of brass divots.

2) I like the quality of the brass from Lapua or RP.... this makes the 6mmBR the most accurate rifles I have ever shot.

Single shot is as fast or probably faster than a repeater if you include the magazine loading and reloading time.

No ejector on this build too, so that I don't have to chase those pricey Lapua brass.:)
Besides, ejection of 6mm BR on a Remington 700 can be unreliable and erratic (from what I read).

Single Shot Follower.

Looking at the bolt the OP has bought the firing pin hole does look a little smaller than the standard Rem700 bolt. I had the same problem with my 6.5x47 Lapua build but I had a gunsmith bush the bolt to 0.062" and turn down the firing pin to 0.060". I no longer get any primer cratering with magnum CCI primers, CCI-450. I haven't tried normal small rifle primers yet.

Pierced primers and cratering are common problems when using stock Remington bolt in 6.5X47 Lapua and 6BR Norma because both use small primers. And Remington bolt have disproportionately large firing pin hole in relation to the firing pin.

These are fired from my Remington 700 223. They use large firing pin even in 223. Note the cratering and these are not hot loads.

CCI 400 (L), CCI 450 (M), Remington 7 1/2 (R)
