Sightron SIII Comments

Shopping for scopes for my savage long range project gun. My budget is in the $500-800 area for scope. I was reading some pretty good things about Sightron S3 series. I think glass is made in Japan? Just wondering if any of you had any experience with this scope. I have never held one. I like using MOA reticles and my options are more limited.

I have three,-- 2 6.5-20x50 Big Sky (discontinued) and 1 6-24x50, all with the MOA-2 reticle, which, along with their reputation for accurate repeatable adjustments, was the major reason for selecting them. Soon they will be joined by an 8-32x56, because those three have been excellent in use. I think that they are made by Light Optical in Japan, and they have a lifetime warranty. My favorite since I can't afford March.

Yes , looks like they are known for good, reliable tracking. I’m liking what I read! It’s hard to order a scope for $700 or so that you can’t look through! Thats why I ask here, it helps ease my mind.

You know, the old saying used to be “whatever the rifle cost, put a scope that cost just as much or more on it”? Do you think this is still true today? I see many $700-$800 rifles wearing scopes around $300-$400 scopes! I believe modern machining and stiff competition has tightened things up.

I’m just sitting here thinking about when I was wondering about the quality of the Sightron scopes a while back. I was messing around today with my new siii 6-24x50 and wanted to post back here. This scope is all what I’ve heard it to be. Very well made , clear , and I shot it a little at 300 yds and it tracks perfect. I’m Very happy ! Thanks for the advise on Sightron, they aren’t very popular in these parts, but make a fine scope. At $800 , it’s not cheap, but I believe it gives $1,000 plus scopes a good run.
