What do y’all think about SBR brass, is it any good?
From my limited research into thet.375 Socom, the brass is made my starline.
I personally like the Nickle starline cases, they look bad@ stacked all bright and shiny in the mag....
SBR should be good, especially if you can get it at good price.

I think you are making a mistake.

.50 Beowulf is more biggerer and the most bestest! :p
But I wanted one that cost more to shoot.

Well I didn’t do to bad, I got 100 pieces for $85 out the door.

So far these are the parts I have ready for the build.

Black Nitride gas tube.
Anderson upper.
Armaspac extended mag release.
Magpul MOE grip.
Strike Industries enhanced mag release.
Strike Industries Arch-EL charging handle.
Magpul MBUS sights.

I was going with the 458 SOCOM for my AR build. I just think the case design is better than the 450 Bushmaster.

However I switched to to 450 Bushmaster just because Ruger came out with the Ranch Rifle chambered for the Bushmaster. I am trying to get a bolt rifle to match each of my AR chamberings. So far I have been happy with the Bushmaster.

Now I just need to find a boltie in 277 WLV and 25-45 Sharps!

I’m keeping an eye out for a Savage in 223 at a good price because, I wand to rr barrel it for 277 WLV to go with my AR. But don’t think I want a bolt gun in 458 Socom.
I’m hopping some more stuff shows up today.
I’m going to drop the the upper and lower off Monday at the local shop to have them laser engraved. I want to have 458 Socom put on the left side of the upper and have the image of Bullet Bill on the right side of the mag well .

I was just going to have the 458 SOCUM pair with my 45-70 of which I have 3. The 45-70 is a good deer/pig/black bear rifle. I'm sure bigger game as well, but those 3 are the biggest we have around here. But tthe 450 Bushmaster has given me better kills than the 45-70. The bullets are just softer. You have to be careful with bullet selection with the 45-70.

Case in point. I shot a deer a few years back with a 350 grain bullet out of the 45-70. Broadside at about 60 yards. Double lung just missed the heart. The 350 grain bullet did not expand. Just poked a finger sized hole through the deer. I recovered the deer. It ran into a pine thicket swam a creek and expired on the far bank. Went about 100 - 150 yards. Had I been using a 300 grain hollow point, I doubt the deer would have taken 3 steps. Don't get me wrong. The 45-70 is poison on deer. Just use the right bullet. I like any of the 300 grain hollow points and the Speer 400 grain soft point is a good soft bullet too.

Been doing some reading and think I’m going to be giving 300 and 325 gr bullets a try at first.
I just go my package from Delta Team Tactical. Now I have my,
Flat wire buffer spring.
5oz buffer.
Low profile gas block.
And the barrel.

The markings are at the front, top, of the barrel.

It’s dimpled for the set screw .

I’ll give it a good cleaning before the build.

I’m going to drop the barrel off to my buddy at Aklys Defense on Monday. Zack is going to make me a muzzle break and time it for the barrel.

The 15” rail it will be. Now I do have another 15” rail, it’s also slim, but ultralight.
I had two more boxes arrive yesterday. One from Brownell’s and the other from Primary Arms.
I bet Brownell’s could save a lot of money by using smaller boxes. The BCG was the only part in the box.

Whoever is making there BCG’s is doing a great job. It’s very clean, no tool markings at all.

The other package had items unrelated to this build. They’re for updates and a upcoming project.

Just warmed up my socom for the first time yesterday and quite honestly I was expecting more recoil myself. I had no problems feeding 300gr HPs but the 400gr flatnose bullets would not feed until I filed the front lip of the magazine down a little. Going back out today for more!

My SOCOM had less recoil than I expected for the amount of power. After looking at 50’s out of my .223, the bullets for the SOCOM look like pumpkins
My buddy, Zack, has a 458 Socom that he loves to shoot. He told me that the pressure at the muzzle is low and that a comp is not that effective. But I have nerve damage in my right shoulder due to radiation treatments and the lower the felt recoil, the better. Zack said that he will design something that will work. He’s thinking that a two chamber break will work best.
My son, Austin, thinks I should build a 300 Blackout, but I told him that the 458 Socom would do everything the Blackout would do, but on a bigger scale. My younger son, Isaac, thinks the 458 Socom build is cool because, the bullets are so big. I agree with Isaac.:)

I had a marlin 1895 in .45-70. You could safely load it significantly beyond typical .45-70 loads. I put a Pachmyer Decelerator recoil pad on it. Even with stiff loads it was not uncomfortable to shoot. Dunno if you could do something like that, maybe on a collapsible stock and adjust accordingly

The 15-inch hand-guard is nice but on a 16 inch barrel it sort of begs for a suppressor to be mated up to the end of that long hand-guard. I did a 15 hand-guard on my 16-inch 300BO and it looks pretty good with my suppressor on it. On my big bore AR I just have a simple tubular hand-guard.

Yeah the big bore AR cartridges do not work great with a muzzle brake. Heavy large caliber bullet and relatively low mass of and lower pressure propellant gases make breaks less effect compared to the % recoil reduction you get with the big magnum high velocity rifle cartridges. That said you can still get a ~10% reduction (give or take a bit) in recoil impulse with a well designed brake for a big bore. I switched out the flash hider on mine for a small two baffle/chamber break and it made a small but noticeable reduction. A suppressor works good reduce recoil too. :D I really want a suppressor for my big bore AR too.

I swear Gunny’s war room has got to have more lead and copper than most mines ever produced. Just can’t get enough of these builds, keep ‘em coming!

For the record, both of your sons were right, so...300BO next month???
I’ve never been impressed with the 300 Blackout. Now if I were going to build one to suppress, then maybe.
