Last week I saw that PSA had the Remington TAC-14 on sale for $269. Now I’m not a big shotgun type of guy so, I told myself that it was a good deal, but not needed. But the Daily Deal emails kept coming in and I gave in and ordered one.
It arrived yesterday but by the time I made it home it started raining, not long after the sky came falling down. So pics would have to wait.

I took the last two days off due to the weather has me under the weather. But it was dry enough to get some pics today.
It came in a nice green box.

PSA added some swag to the box.

When I picked it up I saw that the gun had Aguila Minishells in stock. They had the buckshot for $20 and slugs for $23. I got out the door paying $60 total for the transfer fee an the two boxes of shells.

Looks like they did a good job putting the front bead on.

If you’re thinking about getting one PSA still has them on sale for $269.99 with free shipping..

Nice, there's a wood "stocked" version of the Remington that I want.

I don't think those mini-shells will work in the Remington. The Mossberg needs an Opsol mini-shell adapter for them to work.

You may have issues with the minishells in a 870- I have heard that they have a tendency to "flip" during the cycle, but that they are more reliable in Mossberg 500/590's- knowing you, I bet you have several of them.

Have you had any issues with premature rusting? I've heard of issues with the finish new Remington's have that is basically black spray paint , got my hands on the hardwood version of it at the LGS and while it was pleasing to the eye the action was rough and it already had light surface rust just from being under the counter.

I've had my TAC 14 for quite a while now.

Mine will feed Aguila Mini Shells just fine. No jamming. No problems. No rust.

I can hit a silhouette style paper target every time at 20 yards, from the hip with slugs. I'm confident in my ability to hit with buck shot even more so.

The first round in mine is Remington Reduced Recoil 2 3/4" 00 Buck. The remainder are Mini Shells buck shot.

This is what stays next to my bed. When things go bump in the dark, my TAC 14 is there to comfort me.

Remington list the finish as Black Oxide. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. Out of the box the action was a little stiff but after working it a few times it got smooth.

If I wanted more capacity in the Tac-14 than the std 4+1, I'd go w/the wood furniture version that comes w/the factory +1 and ball/detent that prevents the extension from backing out due to recoil. Yes, it costs more but you'd have to pay for an extension anyway plus deal w/those silly mag tube dimples.

I got to shoot it today and I have to say, I had a blast. I shot three different loads. The Aguila Mimi buckshot, Fed. Reduce recoil 00 buck and some full power 2 3/4 00 buckshot.
The Mimi shells were fun. They worked fine in as long as you tilted the gun to the right while cycling the action.
The reduced recoil 00 had some kick but not hard to handle, but those full power 00 were nothing fun.
I think we put about 30 rounds through it.
After playing around I was going to put up some new targets to see how it patterned, but the sky turned dark. A thunderstorm moved in very fast and the rrai started coming down as we hurried to pick things up.
I think I’m going to call my new tow THUNDER STICK. :)

Well Gunny it’s all your fault that I’ll have to head to my local FFL in a week or so to pick a package up from PSA!

When the mossberg came out I was on the fence over their usefulness. But a scabbard attaches to the back of a seat in the truck or in quick reach near the bed with a light makes for a nice SD weapon.

I thought I would eventually get the Keltec KSG for the role this serves but could never bring mysef to pay $800 for a pump shotgun.

My first shotgun was an 870 that my dad gave me for a birthday long ago, so I’m used to the controls of a Remington otherwise I would have gone with the mossberg as it holds one more round than the Tac-14, but I’ll solve that eventually with a +1 extension.

Hickok45 seems to like both of them quite well, and I like his addition of the hockey tape on the handle, I’ll be doing that to mine right away. I used to play hockey growing up so it’ll be a natural fit.

They look like something that Tubbs from Miami Vice would lug around.

I kind of want one just as a range toy. I really don't have much use for one. If I did ever get one maybe at some point I'd get a tax stamp for it and throw a stock on it.

FYI, Sportsman's Guide has the KSG for like $550 shipped and comes with a free universal cleaning kit. You can also sign up for their 4pay during checkout. They ship the gun now, but you pay in 4 installments over four months. I just got that deal myself.

I was going to get a Tac14 for around $340, but I couldn't pass up the deal on the KSG. The KSG is the same length as the Shockwave/Tac14 but holds 14+1 rounds, has a 14.5" barrel I believe, and you can shoulder it. It's worth the extra $200 for all those features, plus $138 a month for 4 months for one is a no brainier for me at least... Plus, when you add the price of extensions and extra mods to make up for the low round count of the Shockwave and Tac, the price difference shrinks even more.

Don't be at all surprised if some cop sees that and confiscates it from you. I know and you know it's not an NFA SBS but believe me there's a LOT of cops who didn't get that memo and probably wouldn't believe you if you tried to explain it to them. I am speaking from experience.

Urban myth. There are thousands of the Shockwaves etc on the streets and that have been sold, and I've yet to hear even one person claim to know someone who knows someone who has had that happen.
