Pittsburgh mayor wants to ignore state firearms preemption law

Mayors in Florida were talking about doing a similar end run on Florida's pre-emption.
I haven't seen anymore talk but you can bet the lame duck mayors in St Pete and Tampa are willing to waste tax revenue on doing so.

Sounds like treason to me. Kinda surprised he doesn’t already have a lawsuit against him for inciting illegal activity. Who’s the head DA there? I’d be giving him/her a call!

It's OK, they can do anything they want, laws don't apply to them. Even though they all swore to uphold the constitution. It's, you know, for the children.

It's also how you rationalize it, "I did not have sex with that woman. Oh, that wasn't sex."

This is a great opportunity to set precedent. If the commies in Philly want to ban guns, then declare the city a separate entity, politically.

Let them become their own mini kingdom that they can run as they see fit, and then declare all votes by people living within the border of the city null and void in regard to state elections.

I know if we did that in Washington state, with the Seattle votes gone, we would have a normal state again.

Let all major cities become separate kingdoms with no voting rights in regards to state and federal elections. Give the morons what they want and America would be much better off.

He should ask Mayor Frank Jackson of Cleveland how that's working out for HIM.

If he has to hand over one more of those big prop checks, he's going to need back surgery.

Amen. It'd almost be funny when the folks in these cities finally realized all the poor, homeless, criminals and addicts were living in their cities, entirely dependent on government support, while the rural areas and rest of the states would be fully functioning with happy, gainfully employed and productive citizens.

Seattle's mayors have pushed the state on the preemption laws a few times. One time it was in regard to weapons in parks and I believe the latest was for safe storage.
the weapon in park thing was a huge PR campaign, but with McKenna as AG, it didn't go anywhere. After a while the AG "allowed" Seattle to ban guns in "outdoor music festivals", the venue type where the sparking incident occurred. Of course, WA already had handguns banned at those for years, and the AG only allowed Nickles to fallow the law, but that didn't stop Seattle from throwing a big celebration, and the media circus backing it up. Now with Sideshow Bob running the show, the WA constitution allows Seattle to do anything it wants. Bobs our next governor. .

Sorry for such a doom and gloom post, but unfortunately, the way I see it, we're just going to have to face the fact that we're a dying breed and voting makes absolutely no difference when we aren't enough to get something passed or rejected.

It's tough to swallow, but that's just the way it is. Couple that with large scale buyers of politicians, like Soros and Blumberg, and the picture gets even bleaker. Enjoy your guns now, as someone said in another post, we're probably only a generation or two from losing them completely.

Look at the slow gun sales when there's no threatening election and the decline of hunting licenses. New gun sales can probably be traced to the same people, not many completely new buyers. Presently we're only in a holding action, just a matter of time.

All these idiots talk common sense gun laws! What are those? They want to ban assault weapons! Who the heck has those! I sure don't have one, and no one else does either. I'd like to see them find one to ban!

I've deleted a bunch of off topic and chest pounding rants. We try to have a fairly sophisticated discussion, so spare us those, please. Plenty of other places for ranting.

Discuss the law, the implementation, its legitimacy, what can be done, etc.

Frank Jackson tried the same thing in Cleveland with an "assault weapons" ban.

It was such a dumpster fire that the Cleveland Police Patrolman's Association advised its members not to enforce the law lest THEY be personally liable to anyone whose rights they violated.

And THAT is the key to ensuring that even if passed, such preempted laws are never enforced. Make anyone who enforces a facially preempted gun law personally liable for civil damages. They can pass enough laws, that if printed and stacked, they'd reach the moon. If nobody will ENFORCE them for fear of ending up under a bridge with their family, they're just so much meaningless words on paper.

Bingo! Took a few lost law suits but Jackson, as stupid as he is and inept, figured it out.

At significant expense to the taxpayers. :(
And if you give your fourteen year old a fifth of Wild Turkey and the car keys, you're going to pay for that too.

If you don't like your elected officials flushing your tax dollars down the toilet, elect better officials, or move.

One way or another, they're going to run out of other people's money.

I agree, vote with your feet. I grew up in California and that was unpleasant (the political climate). Now I live in Texas which while it still has problems, government overreach isn't really one of them.

I moved here from Chicago. I would never live there again in a million years.

Gun control is a symptom of a fundamental societal rot, and almost always accompanies it.

I don't understand these infringements on 2A. How is it possible to blatantly go against the Constitution. It would seem that any member of the judiciary can read what the Constitution says and strike the crap down. Is another civil war in our future?

Not saying you are wrong but you sound defeatist. Cold dead hands! To say we are a dying breed might be true but it’s hard to believe that when you look at the rate shooting sports has grown the last few years.

This is a losing strategy. The way things are going you will eventually run out of places to move. My only solution is we all move to one state and give the gov the bird. Or maybe a couple of states. Only problem is that was tried in the past and didn’t go so well. But we are running out of options. I’ve got way too much invested in my stuff to just ha s it over. Now if they want to compensate me then we might work something out, or not.
