Very cool! What are the requirements for a True Heavy match? I didn't realize there was such a thing.

Different organizations have different gear requirements and for example 3 Gun Nation has changed its division requirements several times over the years. The original intent of "heavy" division was a .308 or larger battle rifle, a .44 or larger handgun, and a 12 gauge pump shotgun.

In UML which is what our club is affiliated with now, "Tac .308" is basically tactical optics division but with a .308 rifle, "Free Heavy" is as above but with a .40 caliber pistol, and "True Heavy" specifies .45 ACP limited to 10 rounds in the mag, and a 12 gauge pump as well.

We’re you shooting irons while the AR guys had optics??!!
Yes. The faster tacops and open guys beat me by a long way but I beat quite a few in TacOps, 2X4 TacOps, 2X4 Open, Open, and PCC divisions. The stages didn't require a lot of shotgun loading and I shoot my pump as well as a lot of auto guys and faster than some, particularly as they're often clearing malfunctions. Had a couple guys running ARs in my squad that caused them problems all day. Course they had messed with the adjustable gas block to try to make it shoot softer/faster and that came back to bite them. A quality AR with standard parts and good ammo is as reliable as anything. but people think they need to mess with them. I guess that's part of the fun.

Congrats sound like you have great time.
I would love to see their faces when grandpa showed them how have to be done, no frills.

Wow, you had a great performance, in a such a long stage with a Garand, 1911 and shotgun.
It might take me 2 day to recover from the exciting only.
Keep posting please. Quick question what ammo did you use for the Garand.
Thanks and keep posting them.

Ammo is federal bulk birdshot and Winchester slugs in the shotgun, handloaded 168 Nosler CC and 110 vmax in the Garand, and handloaded 200 grain LSWC in the 1911. I usually shoot 230 plated ball in 1911s but I wanted to burn these up.

Rifle charges are 44.6 H4895 under the 168s and 49 under the 110s. CCI #34 primers, mixed HXP and GI brass, sized to or slightly below the lower step on a Wilson case gauge.

Thanks 1kPerDay
CMP remenber my Birthday recently with a Garand. So, I have to treat the rifle properly.
Running is not for me by now, but certainly I can shoot standing.
Keep posting your matches.

if you can find Greek HXP M2 ball that is probably your best bet for factory ammo. Or "creedmor" ammo from the CMP. I haven't used any of that though.

The Creedmoor 167 match ammo shoots very tight groups in my special. Do yourself a favor and try some out. They shoot better than my handloads so far, but I don't spend as much on components as they do. Lapua Scenar Match BTHP bullets in Lapua brass. Not really that expensive for what you get.
