Heavy Sport division it's now called, and iron sights or non-magnified optic .308 or larger rifles have no restriction on magazine capacity, .45 cal handguns can hold more than 10 rounds, and pump 12 gauge shotguns can hold more than 8 in the tube (though not at the start of a stage). (Heavy Optics can have magnified optics on .308 or larger rifle, but are restricted to 20 round mags, and .45 handguns are restricted to 10 rounds, and 12-gauge shotguns--which can be semi-auto now--are restricted to 9 round total capacity only).

I placed 43rd out of 85, and first in the heavy division (nobody else shot heavy LOL). Lots of fun, though I still can't hit the long steel very well. Maybe I should actually go to a dang range and actually sight in my rifles?

The stages were set up to strongly favor rifles with magnified optics, with spinners at 100 yards and plate racks out at distance also, and lots of flashers at 200-375. I didn't hit the long steel, even shooting my Federal GMM ammo I reserved for that stage, but I console myself with the knowledge that at least I beat half of the AR guys.

I was SO for our squad so I ran a lot (you have to run the stages with each shooter) and had to disqualify someone for the first time (she ND'ed her shotgun into the ground inside 10 feet while transitioning from a load), and quite a few others were disqualified from other squads also (dropped guns, breaking the 180, etc.).

got video uploaded for any interested

I love my M1A, but it's damned heavy. Ain't it.
Good show though. Get some range time and move up.

Heavy is a matter of perspective, if you're an old guy that learned to shoot with old steel and wood then no, the M14 style rifle isn't heavy. On other hand, if you learned on aluminum and plastic then yes, it's heavy.

I will say though that the M14 in it's stripped down form isn't really any heavier than the average M4 setup for combat and if you want a lighter version of the M1A you can pickup a SOCOM (the old SOCOM 16 or a SOCOM II without the rails) and put it in to a carbon fiber stock. My setup in it's lighted form weighs about 7 lbs.
