Great looking SS6. For $350 I'd say it's a great deal. As long as it locks up tight. As far as your shooting goes.. one handed while holding a camera with the other... you did fair.

I have a 6" Stainless SS6 that I bought new in 1978. Great gun shooting guns.

Have you checked the balance of a 6" vs. 4" revolvers? I bought a 4" GP-100 a few years ago because I found the 6" to be too "nose heavy" for my liking.

$300-350 would be about the going price around here for a Blue one and about $50 higher for stainless. I think they are way undervalued. Personally I'd rather have a Security or Speed Six than a GP100 or SP101. To me the older ones balance a little better and generally have better actions. Ruger actions just seem to get better the more they are fired.

I hear Ruger doesn't service those anymore, I may be wrong, CK before you buy. hdbiker

I have two 4" SS revolvers. You should be posting and showing your new 6" SS gun instead of just talking about it. THats a very good deal. Where did you say it was located?

Since it has is your money buy it.

If it is my money I would pass. The action on the Security-Six leaves something to be desired when compared to Smith and Wesson revolvers of the same era.

On the plus side they can handle a lot more magnum loads than the K-Frame Smiths can before needing the attention of a gunsmith.

The finish looks like it has a lot of wear. The wood grips do not match the condition of the rest of the finish. It may have worn Goodyears which were popular back then. Still something worth noting. In addition the hammer has engine turning meaning someone has had the action taken apart. It makes a big difference if the person that did the work on the hammer name was Bob as in Munden or Bubba here hold my beer and watch this.

I passed on a Security-Six such as this at a gunshow last Fall and brought a used S&W Model 64 4” barrel for what I consider to be a better price.

Where is it advertised as they are not that hard to find? Well with that kind of mileage maybe they are.

Probably a good deal depending upon complete, overall operating condition.

Seems to have a LOT of wear from the firing hand and that's not just *holster wear*.

Either it was;

Fired a LOT.

Played with a lot.

or

The owner was on meds affecting his plan sweat to a somewhat destructive degree.

I'd look it over very carefully.

Todd.

You’ll have to search for a long time to find one for cheaper than that. However those pictures are pretty bad. It’s hard to tell how much wear the gun has vs the amount of glare from the camera. Sometimes the gun will look much better in person than in pictures and sometimes a crappy picture will find many flaws.

:uhoh: gone already:(

A good deal got away. Ruger stands behind their product and those are very good sturdy accurate guns and if anything is wrong they are fixable.

Except Ruger doesn't support the six series any longer. BTW, my LGS has a 4" Security Six for $325 I looked at but the cylinder has more rotational play when locked up than I would accept. I did find a NYCPD 3" Speed Six, 38 spl possibly unfired for $650. I probably paid too much but I'd never find another in that condition. I won't live long enough to wear it out and it shouldn't ever have to have it repaired.

Look at the wear where the trigger finger rests against the frame and look at the frame where the middle finger would rub the frame behind the trigger guard. That gun has been shot A LOT!
