In my home only me and the wife live in it. All the kids are grown and out on their own. We are the only ones who have keys to the house. No one is ever in our home if we aren't there.
I have several guns hidden and at the ready throughout the home for quick access if a need arises.
Anyone else do this?

I certainly like the idea of having several firearms of a relatively high capacity stashed around the home. Out of sight, but not out of easy reach.

However, if a burglary were to happen when no one was home, those guns would be free for the taking. Seems like burglars sometimes turn a place inside out very thoroughly.

I have a major sized shop separate from the house. I've considered keeping a firearm out there but have not yet.

I live out in the country and I'm just not that paranoid yet.

I keep one on my person at all times. Only time it's not in my pocket is when showering and sleeping. Have not so little ones running around 10&11 year old. I do keep a can of bear spray on top of fridge. Kids know how to use it just in case.

Only two guns in my house are not loaded. One is over 100 years old and the cylinder no longer locks up correctly and the gun is unsafe to fire. I did shoot it before I found that this was the reason for its poor accuracy.
The other gun is a relatively low-powered gun that only shoots lead round nose ammo. Every other gun is loaded with a couple in strategic (hidden) locations - JIC.
I don't have kids to worry about so, with the exception of a typical wood & glass gun cabinet that is locked, the rest of my guns are where they may be needed.

I have a sign by the door entering from the garage that says there is nothing in this house worth dying for. Enough said

I’m getting to a point where it’s reasonable to do so. I have one in the garage, one in the bedroom, which is right off of the living room, and I’m trying to decide what to put under the house in my crawl space workshop for various vermin that come out of the woods. Luckily my fox neighbors who have moved into my cave have thinned out the vermin. I haven’t seen a snake all year!

If man hid it, another man can find it. If you are comfortable leaving unsecured firearms about go for it. Personally only what I am carrying or have for those bumps in the night are not in a safe. It's also likely to be a bit embarrassing to explain to the office how your stolen firearm was so well hidden no one could find it as he does the report.

I keep only one loaded gun in the house. All others are locked up and not easily gotten to by anyone other than me and my son.

I feel that hiding guns around the house is a good way to arm an intruder. If someone wants to burglarize your home, it's likely going to happen when you aren't home. You get home and find your home tossed with all of your hidden firearms now on the street arming those that shouldn't be armed.

If an intruder is bold and decides to go the way of a robbery/home invasion, that will likely happen when you're asleep. Considering that we are talking about personal safety, we should assume that they know that you have guns in the house or they are assuming that you have guns in the house. This means one of two things. Either they will come in assuming that you are armed and will be watchful or they will come in looking for hidden firearms. Either way, I feel that keeping firearms hidden around the house is a bad idea. Many burglaries that occur are committed by someone that knows someone that knows the home owner. All it takes is one pair of loose lips.

"Never keep all your guns in one place" doesn't necessarily mean to keep them strategically around the house.
Now, is this a 'good idea' to combat a armed intruder at a random moment when you're home? Yes.
Is it a good idea to have them around the house if a pair of buglers are tearing your house inside and out when you're not there? No.
When we really look at reality, anything is a possibility and if someone really wanted to take everything away from us, they'll find a way. The difference lies in how likely that is.
It's just a choose what situation you're preparing for. You'll have to be very creative. Me, I've outgrown the whole 'keep this and this gun in this bag, and this one in that bag' phase a few months ago. Just keep your main defensive guns near you at all times.
Thieves main target is the master bedroom. Albeit nowdays they'll target other bedrooms too, because of the large number of electronics, consoles and computers that are in those rooms now. So pretty much, they enter front door, try to access the master bedroom as quickly as possible, or if not, they'll find a bedroom just stocked with games and game consoles. This correlates with the two most common thing stolen from homes: Jewelry, and electronics. And I am pretty sure guns are number three. If you see a gun, you'd just take it if you were a thief. So in your house, make sure anything valuable, like a firearm, is not in this easy line that a person unfamiliar with your house will instinctively walk through trying to find your master bedroom.

The best method for storing anything that's valuable is in a large, thick dial safe that is bolted to the concrete foundation of the ground.

It would be great if a burglary detective could step in and offer us words of wisdom.

I keep something within arm's reach of where I sleep.

I figure the always-locked doors and two large indoor dogs will buy me a little time, if nothing else.

The dogs are large and bark a lot. To me it seems that the odds of a break-in are relatively low as a result.

I try never to answer questions like this on a public forum. Just in case.

Yes, I do. If we are leaving the house for more than 24 hours, they are secured in a safe. Hidden in strange places, yet accessible. Is there still a risk of theft in the event of a break-in when we leave the house for an hour? Yes. There are risks involved in every decision. No heirlooms or anything that can't be replaced easily in the event of theft, and after all, insurance exists for a reason.

I have them around, wouldn't say they are hidden though.

Putting it in the corner or under the bed isn't going to fool anyone.

I don't, I just carry when at home..The rest are locked. When sleeping, I have a Glock17 with light, on bedside..no children in our home.

It sounds like a good idea....till someone has to come in after you're dead. Right now there are four firearms that myself and the widow can't locate. We have the boxes, but we can't find the pistols.
