I'm planning some range training in early June and late July, requiring a big bucket of ammunition. My existing can of a few hundred rounds of 9mm is not enough. So, the evening of 5/24 I went to both Academy and Wally World to see how bad the current run has hit them. Academy had exactly one 10 round box of 9mm shot shell, and no other 9mm. (A lone box of 50 FMJ Sig on the shelf I thought was 9mm turned out to be 10mm.) Wally World had nada. Bud's showed out of stock on all bulk packages. Both Bud's and Brownells had not great prices, so I kept looking. Cheaper Than Dirt did have some never-heard-of-them brands in bulk, but still not great prices.

I ended up ordering bulk cans from Georgia Arms at pretty reasonable price. I have used a lot of their 45 ACP and 38SP purchased at gun shows; this will be my first try of their 9mm.

I saw no indication during the process of long delivery time or out of stock. I will report back if there are any glitches in the order.

I had ordered some from Bass Pro, just to get a notification that my order was "updated" and wouldn't arrive until June 24th. That was about 3 weeks ago. I canceled the order and placed one with sportsman's guide. That was shipped and delivered in about 5 days.

FWIW Walmart doesn’t sell handgun ammo anymore. My go to online vendor is SG Ammo and they have a variety of stuff in the $13 to $15 per box range.

I like Brownells and Buds but don’t think I’ve ever ordered ammo from them. There are many other online vendors that have consistently lower prices then them.

I prefer to get mine from TargetSportsUSA. Buy by the case, shipping is included. They offer a "prime" membership where ANY order, even one box, gets free shipping and you get wholesale pricing; great if you're wanting to try a bunch of different brands to find what works best in your guns.

A LGS to me has had Speer Lawman 124gr for sale at 500 rds for $130. No limit either. Not super cheap but a sign to me things are getting back to normal
Last time I ordered for TargetSports, I got 1000 (case) for $180 delivered. Last notice I got from them, however, has the price jumping up towards your unit price.

My days of high-round-count centerfire hand-gunning are history*, as cumulative recoil is bad for my aging joints, so, I have not shopped for bulk 9mm FMJ, as my old supply has not been exhausted, but defensive 9mm, such as +P 124-grain Gold Dots, in 50-round boxes, has not been difficult for me to find.

*.22 LR has become my friend, in retirement.

Well for starters Wally World no longer sells handgun ammo besides 22Lr. Some of the big box retailers like Academy are getting it back in but for 9mm it is going out as fast as it is coming in. These days it seems like $9.99-$10.99 is the lowest cost for standard 9mm brass cased range fodder. Watch out for Bass Pro they are taking orders as if they are in stock but then it takes them 30 days to ship.

S&B 124 9mm is in stock for $10.99 https://www.kygunco.com/Product/View?ItemNo=122530&avad=211021_c1b010845 .

It took me nearly 6 weeks to get my order of 9mm ammo from Bass Pro. I got the email the following day it was backordered.

The entire time it was backordered they were still taking orders

Been couple weeks Georgia Arms and Target Sports had best price . I have plenty of 9mm bought 100 rd .357 mag from Georgia Arms, shipped and delivered 3 days also need to sign for FedEx

Yup, iffin you want to pay about 40% more than it was a few months ago........

just saying, my hindsight is really good...;)

It's available but not at the cheaper prices back when no one was needing/wanting it. Go figure... o_O
Heck, PSA had 9mm and 5.56 with free shipping over the weekend. If I'd bought some it would be scheduled to arrive Wednesday. ;)

I have had good luck with Georgia Arms ammunition, and I hope you do too. I have ordered their 9mm 124 grain and it worked well and was consistent. I usually look first at ammoseek.com to compare prices. If you do that, watch out for shipping costs, as some places really lower the price and hike the shipping in hopes of catching you unaware.

Well , that's for sure.
Hopefully you have learned from this experience. The current ammo shortage will not be the last - government and society seem to be getting more reactive and less sensible as time rolls on. You need to assess your ammunition usage and lay in a supply that will allow you to ride out months - or even years - of scare (or worse) based shortage. No fun not being able to go to the range for lack of ammo.

Check out Classic Firearms , it is a good outfit that currently offers several reasonable 9mm options.

I’m finding 9mm readily available everywhere it’s always been for the same old prices both in store and online.

Oh wait, I’ve been looking at 9x18. Sorry guys!

Well if you have handguns in 9x18mm then you able to shoot them... How much does a box of those go for?

Maybe it didn’t come across so well but that’s the joke I was making. I just got a new to me CZ82 and ammo is available online for the same 10-12 dollars it’s been for years. Sometimes small shops will blow out boxes they’ve had sitting around for even less than that. Not quite $9 9x19 goodness but it’s available at least!
