How far do you usually shoot your handguns?

I do most of my shooting at 15 yards but I enjoy stretching it out to 100 yards with my service-type sidearms just to work on the skills I might need sometime.

Most SD handgun practice is at 15 yds/50 ft. I will always shoot 25-50 yds at times.

Most of my shooting now is at the indoor so 50ft is it. Once in a while when we drive up in the forest we can play. Any more with my eye's though anything beyond 50 yards is just me throwing lead and watching the dirt to move onto target
The 50ft works great for anything I would ever use for defense of course. With the mouse guns even half that is to the point I can barely stay on paper.

I shoot between 21 feet and 25 yards.
I do have a steel p!ate set up at 60 yards that I always shoot at least a few rounds at each session....it good to have a backyard range.

The majority of my shooting is done from 15 yards to point blank with the target.

I usually shoot a couple of mags at 25 yards each outing too, and at 50, and sometimes 100 when I'm over on that range. Anymore though, my "older" eyes don't do as well as my "younger" eyes did at the longer distances with iron sighted handguns.

Seven yards is pretty much the minimum for me, because my range has a 7 yrd min target distance. I'd like to shoot at 3 yrds, because I do a lot of Dot Torture drill, which are supposed to be done at 3 until you get a perfect score, then 4, then 5, etc.

Fifteen yards is almost my maximum. A couple of times per year, I'll practice at 25. Right before hunting season, I'll re-zero my revolver sights to 25 yrds with my heavy bear loads, which hit much higher than my light target loads. Once this past year, I shot at 50 yards, but that was for an NRA Bullseye Pistol match.

I'd say 15-25 yards, depends were we go. But seems most people are 7-10 yards out, I'd say what ever you can still point shoot is the distance id practice.

For bullseye targets, three to fifteen yards. For silhouette targets, seven to twenty-five yards.

50 to 75 yards. My wife and I set yellow Pennzoil bottles at 50 to 75 yards and "plink" them. She likes to put a round just under the bottle and see how high she can get it to jump up in the air. And then she laughs like a little girl............ Yes. I am a very lucky man.

Targets at 15yds, gongs at 25yds and 100yds.

At the 25yd indoor range I shoot from 0 - 25yds. The majority from 15yds and out. Most of the shooters I see there don't shoot past 7yds.

Defensive drill- 15yd.

Most .22 target work- 25yd.

Over the past years most of my handgun shooting has been participating in black powder cartridge, vintage military, and modern military matches at 25 yards at the gun club, with some informal solo target practice at the upper.range or at the the old home place on the mountain at 5 to 25 yards, and a few indoor range sessions at a gun shop at 7 and 15 yards.

The maximum distance on the Colorado Springs armed guard qualification is 15 yards (kneeling, behind a barricade) so that's the maximum I practice at but not often.

I've never shot anyone but every time I've had a run in with a Street Rat it's been less than 15 feet and usually about five.

When I belonged to a range that held IHMSA silhouette competitions, I'd routinely shoot at the 50 and 100 meter sighter silhouette targets.

More recently, most of my shooting is 10 to 20 yards.

90% of my pistol shooting done between 7 and 15 yards. I used to do a few at 25 yards every session, but seldom do now. The is all with semi-auto personal protection type pistols. With my 45 Colt I will shoot further.

Carry and handguns I am using for IDPA/USPSA competition get sighted in and shot out to 25 yards. My hunting handguns get sighted in at 50 yards, but I do not use optics on any of my handguns.

I sometimes (not often) shoot slow fire at 20 yards.
The majority of my shooting is double taps (quick shooting) at 6-7 yards.

3 to 25 yards but the majority is at 15 to 25.
Good groups and speed at 25 means you are have mastered draw, trigger control, sight picture, and recoil recovery.
3 round drills are the hardest, but the most satisfying.

I break this down into three areas.

When I was into handgun hunting my SRH 9 1/2" - 44 mag, 629 8 3/8"- 44 mag, 657 7"-41 mag, and Contender 30-30 win 14" all scoped with red dots. Shot at 25, 50, and 75 yards.
Full size semiautomatics and revolvers 10, 15, and 25 yards.
Concealed carry pocket guns 5, 7, 10, and a little at 15 yards.

Arthritis in my hands and shoulders makes the big guns harder to hold comfortably.

About 15-16 years ago I enjoyed shooting out to 75 yards with my duty pistols, and could reliably hit the 8 inch gong. Lately my practice is limited to 15-20 yards as that is the limit of the local indoor range.

7-15 yards with 10ish my norm.

Ive been doing quite a bit of reading and watching youtube etc, as handguns in general are my weakest firearm type. I really only started investing time in them about two (maybe 3) years ago. What I noticed is that a great deal of what Im seeing, and reading, about is 10-25yds being average to long for many/most handgun shooters.

Am I wrong in that observation? what ranges do you guys usually shoot at?

My general range is 9 yards with no bench or rest in front of me.

But when I can [ range to myself of close buddys ] I shoot from holster ,starting at 3' ,then transition out to as much as 100 yards. .

I want to know that if FORCED to take the shot,that I have a clue as to where it will strike.

My average is between 10-25 yards. Just depends on what drills Im running. I shoot 25-100 yards probably about 6-10 times a year and I shoot 100-300 yards a few times a year as well.
