The last couple of years I've had a friends sled to use to sight my rifle in. Unfortunately I no longer have that option, so I'm curios as to what "everyone" uses to sight-in their rifles.

Do you free hand it, use a sled, use bags, or something else?

Feel free to post exactly what you use and why.

Have always used a rear "eared" bag and a front adjustable rest. Couldn't even tell you the name except it is orange, so most likely a Lyman or similar; it is about 35+ years old.

For non-bipod rifles, I use an adjustable front and a rear eared bag also, by coincidence mine's also orange. It's also ancient, but every time I think about replacing it, I figure it's working well enough.

Rifle intended to be shot primarily from a bi-pod, precision & varmint stuff, I do my load development and sighing off the bipod with a rear eared bag.

I was given a lead sled, but I'm really not a fan of it. Seems like I spend forever fidgeting to get the reticle lined up.

Rests, bags of various types, bipods.

I had two Bald Eagle rests, one cast iron base with an adjustable windage top that had a bag for hunting rifle stocked rifles and an alloy base one with an adjustable windage top with a top for flat bottomed benchrest stocks. Great front rest for the money, had mine for a bunch of years.

Your top rig (orange) is what I have, with the suede bags. Although, those suede bags Do have some duct tape holding things together!

I usually use a bipod because it is so easy to throw a cheap Caldwell on a sling swivel stud and lay prone in the back yard. This has been good enough for hunting rifles for me.

If I’m sighting in at the range I’ll use a bag off the bench. I usually try to be at least rough sighted before I start paying for range time though (I’m not a member so pay by the hour).

Ammunition and the scope.....

Nah I usually pull the bolt, bore sight it and then rest it against the front tail of my stand like I’ll be doing when hunting.

Hi...
I have ways used ammunition to sight in my rifles.

Yeah, me too.

I usually find somewhere good to lean... put my rifle across sticks like when hunting... hang my non-firing hand in the sling to weight the rifle down into the saddle. It works pretty good, but I prefer a tightly rolled sleeping bag on the hood of the pickup.

I use bags. I've been shooting since I was 5. Qualified expert (highest) every time in the Marine Corps easily , never even came close to not. I like to think I'm a good shot with handgun and rifle.....

That being said.... NO WAY am I gonna sight my rifles in free hand!!!:);)

Bipod and a rear bag for most.
Or front and rear bag.
Gun sets on em, is not clamped by any groove/ears.
Body position is fairly upright. To better mimic offhand.

I shoot everything like it's a varmint rifle (light touch).
So when it comes to boomers I take a beatin'.
But, I shoot em good at the bench, and in the field.

See way too many bolting guns in contraptions, all hunkered over at the bench.
That kinda stuff doesn't work well IMHO
The shooter and rifle are a system. Not independent.
