Hello... I'm seriously considering adding one to my rifle collection. I have done some research and these have good reviews. I can get a good price for a pretty plain one from my LGS ($750).
A couple questions...
Anyone have one? I don't understand what cowboy loads are? I'm just going to get it for plinking and steel plates. The LGS has plenty of .45 LC. A little expensive at $1 a round.
 
That price of the 45 LC should go down alittle when this ammo crunch is over, and if you want you can reload to make it cheaper.. Cowboy loads take on many forms, but usually they are downloaded rounds intended for Cowboy action shooting.

You will not go wrong getting that Henry.. Those are jewels to shoot..
 
I have a Rossi 45, just couldn't swing the cost of a Henry when I was in the market. Had a chance to shoot a friend's Henry, what a nice rifle. Looking at one in 38/357. I like my Rossi, but the Henry is a nicer rifle all the way around. Good luck with it!
 
Do yous guys think $750 is reasonable? I saw them in the lower $700s online, but the guy does the FFL for me and seems super solid. Never bought from his shop before, but he was recommended. And wow, does he have a selection!

Always good to go with LGS when it is close,

I guess do the numbers, you will have to pay sales tax in the store.

On line you will have to pay shipping, and then a transfer fee. And some stores are making you pay sales tax online.. So you will just have to do the numbers.. But local is good if it is reasonably close

I have one and am really happy with it. Since this pic was taken I have added a Ranger Point Precision peep sight, which I'm also really happy with.

It's the one on the left. The one on the right is the 357.

Picked up a 2004 JM Marlin in Cowboy Limited .45(LC) for over $900. Have seen Model 92 trapper Rossis locally for $650 and $675. The Henry at a LGS (don't know the model) is right around the price you posted. The .45(LC) is a little expensive to shoot. Cowboy loads are powered just enough for competition. Suitable for that and plinking I guess. But, over the counter, the best price I found so far is $36.50 for a box of 50. I have reloads that come to about .20 a round, but they are the exception to the rule. For just fooling around you might be better off with a .357/.38 Special. I do like the .45 Colt because it smacks of Americana to me... Henrys are a good gun from from what I hear. Best of luck to you.
 
I love my Henry X in 45 lc. I only handload for it so cost to feed it isn't an issue, provided you can find components. Luckily a grabbed a brick(1000) of primers before they got scarce. The X and I believe the Steel and the case hardened can feed heavier bullets, mine will shoot cloverleaf's at 50yds with 335gr WFN-GC from Montana bullet works. It shoots 2" at 50yds with coated 250gr rnfp from TB bullets at less than 20cents a round. Good enough for plinking and casual practice. You can't go wrong with the Henry IMO.

Wingnut, that's good to know. I have been sticking to 250-255 gr bullets because it was my impression that Henrys wouldn't chamber anything greater than a (approx.) 260 gr bullet. And that is according to the company.

What kind of optic you rocking on that big boy? How do you like it? Eye relief or cheek weld issues?


I can't really comment on the .45LC aspect of things but I can say I do love my Henry. Great rifles, awesome customer service. .45colt deff on the pricey side for heavy plinking these days but then again what's not you? You can't go wrong with a henry! The price of the rifle doesn't seem too bad for a big boy these days.
