So whats the deal with these Leupold freedom line of scopes? I dont see vx2-vx3 anymore and it appears the freedom took over 1-3 series. I am anticipating my Nikon Inline XR is trashed after its 20ft fall last year and with muzzleloader starting next saturday I maybe in the market for a new scope. I thought about just throwing a $120 prostaff or Bushnell on it because I am sometimes done hunting come muzzleloader season but I am very partial to the vx2 that sits atop my Marlin.

What do you guys suggest for under $200?
 
I am looking at the following because I can get them locally.

Burris Droptine
Burris Fullfield IV
Burris Fullfield E1
Vortex Diamondback
Leupold Freedom 3-9.
 
It's a hunting gun not a show piece. I put a 3x9x40 Simmons scope on it. (for hunting it never gets turned up over 5 or 6 power)
It's just as accurate today as it was 6 hard seasons ago when put on, if you take care of your hunting equipment it will last.
I'm not a scope snob!

What exactly is that supposed to mean?
 
I'd just go to the store and play with a bunch.

I'd go with whichever looks best to your eye. I'd probably go with something in the 2-7x range if not a fixed 3 or 4x
 
Mine has its original irons, might look into a vernier tang sight though. My 62 pattern enfield musketoon would look funny with a modern optic.

I'd go with a Burris ff2 e1 or a vx freedom. The ff IV would be my 3rd choice cause I had other Cf rifles that would benefit from it more.

Bought this Knight MK-85 the first year they came out (1985).....hard to believe it's 35 years ago. Kimber rings and bases with a Swarovski 3-9 ($490 at the time). Spent almost as much on the scope as did on the rifle. Doesn't really address the OP's question other than the title heading. Just to say sometimes scopes see years of hard use.

expensive glass always out ways expensive gun if you have to make that choice, 10 min. more light in morning and evening, thats when the big bucks move, i rather have a 100.00 gun and a 500.00 scope than to have a 500.00 gun and a 100.00 scope
 
I've got a Thompson Center Triumph that wears an older Leupold VX2 3-9 with their Sabot reticle. Zero'd at 100 with a 250 grain and Blackhorn 209 powder it stays on an 8" plate at 200 easily. Not into 'primitive', just expanding my season.

Naked or nude what is the difference between naked and nude.

I agree unless you have a period correct brass optic. I'm looking for a vernier tang sight, next best option.
 
My Encore muzzleloader wears a Zeiss Conquest 4X scope, the TC Black Diamond has a Minox ZA 3, the break action Traditions has a made in Japan 4X Weaver. Have three new 4X Weavers as spares.
