New York hunters

I have seen some nice small pickups on the facebook marketplace for around $1,500 with less the 100,000 miles on them.
My 2000 ford ranger has close 300,000 miles on it and it is still going. The rubber band is starting to get streatched but it still gets me there snd back.

The head honcho will not allow me to buy anything less than 5 years old now because she’s tired of me and my beaters.

There is a bone yard not far from me that would only charge about 300 for a motor. It is a u pull it, there are yard guys that will pull them for a charge.

It’s an 08 civic. That was my first thought too. Motor costs $700 but the car isn’t even worth that based on age and mileage.

Place is called Gary's u pull it. Bought a lot of things there over the years. Last motor I pulled wad about 2 years ago. For a 05 Chevy impala. Second generation 3800.

Here are two nice New York deer.
My oldest son's 1st day buck.

One of the reasons we have very few deer here in Washington State.
This is why I fly back to New York to hunt deer.

That's one thing on my bucket list that will go unfulfilled, I'm afraid, I'd rather call in a large cat than a nice buck nowadays. I shot a couple of lesser bucks after this one and began to lose interest in deer. Believe you guys have larger bodied deer than we do down south.

Calling predators, even coyotes and bobcats float my boat when I am able to get out now.

Nice mass on that buck, we got some big deer here most are about 150# but the big ones are around. I've shot 2 doe over 200# my self, dad shot a buck when I was a kid that was 275# dressed. Are state record for years was 388# for years.

in the 20s or 30s they transplanted deer from Michigan and I think down south. There are still some monsters around, I seen one bow hunting 4-5 years ago and I counted 16 points at least hard to say it was about 100 yards away and no binos with me. 8-10 point are still common, the farm I shot my small buck this year the owners some shot a very nice 12.

Some of the pictures posted in this thread attest to the size of your bucks, Troy.....275# is unheard of down here.

I hunted the same (smaller) ranch for over 25 years and the skull mounts below represent the best taken off that ranch.

I moved to a larger ranch in 2003.

The deer on the left was the first I took on the ranch I now hunt & the largest I've ever taken @ 175# field dressed. The center buck was next and the right hand (along with another, also 150 class that I did not mount) the last. I don't recall the FD weights on the latter, but center was definitely the lightest.

Funny thing was that when I came upon the center buck he was engaged in an intense fight with another very nice buck. From my vantage point, I had only seen his opponent through the brush and the cloud of dust they had stirred up. I had not seen this buck, having been fully focused on the opponent, which was probably the best buck I had ever seen to date. I was trying hard to get a clear shot. Fortunately, so far had been unsuccessful when this slightly larger buck charged into view! He was standing behind a thick bush full facing, his neck was extended in order to see over the bush and he was staring straight at me! All that was visible through the settling dust cloud was that rack....down to a couple of inches below the white throat patch, but that was all I needed.

The range was only 70-75 yards, not ideal for the limited field of view of the 8X Redfield silhouette scope on my Mod. 70 300 WM. Fortunately the rifle was already pointed in the general direction or I might have had more difficulty finding the target before he would have surely bolted. Didn't need to evaluate this one, as it was easily the best buck I had/have ever seen. The only regret I have is that he is obviously a younger buck and it is almost a shame that he would probably have developed even more in the next few years.

The next two bucks, while both very nice, were anticlimactic, thus my shift of interest to predator calling. Still get a thrill watching and photographing beautiful whitetails spotted collaterally while predator hunting and thank the Lord, that will never change.

Nice ! Sign me up for the next hunt!!!!

Me too, I only made it out in the woods 4 days out of our regular season and only one day during our 9 day muzzle loader season. It was a few days after our big snow storm, went to go down the old logging road right off from the road and sank to my belly in the snow. It didn't bode well for the rest of that day's hunting.

This may just be my next hunting rig if one of them PA boys doesn’t swoop it up first.
