Just bought new a G3C. Anybody own and shoot theirs? Bought for $299 shipped. I think I got a decent deal. Thinking about using this to replace my S&W Shield 9mm.

Thoughts?

I won a G3c at a banquet last fall and kept it around as the dealer wasn't offering store credit. Credit where it's due though, it's been a reliable little gun and is plenty accurate for the purpose. I don't shoot mine often, I carry my Hellcat or G30, but if I had to carry the G3c I'd be fine with it. They've been around for quite a while, though the updates on the G3 are quite nice. 3 mags with a $300 gun is hard to beat.

Have only heard good things about the G3, from reviews and Taurus owners at the range. I haven't shot one but I like the feel of my shield a little better, can't go wrong with either. Congrats, they are a sweet deal at $300.

I picked one up a few months ago. I have only put about 300 rounds through it as of now. So far I like it, only complaint I have with it is that because of the second strike capability the trigger takes a little getting use to. Its more then likely the way I shoot and not something that will affect everyone. I tend to release the trigger quickly and not hunt for the reset. So I end up pulling through the mush of the first part of the trigger each time. Not a big deal but it takes some getting use to.

The handguns coming out of the new (2019) Bainbridge, GA plant are generally getting positive reviews. That’d be the G3c, TX22’s, and current Heritage .22 revolvers.

I have a G2c that I’m satisfied with, but it’s Brazilian made.

I have purchased 4 G2C, 1 G3C, and 1 G3. Happy with all of them. Good firearms for starting new shooters at the range. Handles a simple 9mm reload well, positive safety on the slide, long trigger pull like a revolver, magazines interchange. Rural King had great prices on them. $249.99 w 2 or 3 mags.

I can’t speak for the C, but my G3 eats anything you feed it, including some of my weak reloads that won’t run in my RO.

Is the trigger travel short like a Glock or does the double strike make the trigger pull longer like a true double action?

Really nice pics etc. in that thread.
Once you rack the slide, the trigger has a "long" pre-travel or take-up (not sure of the correct word) but it is very very light, almost like a free play; then you meet a wall and then a nice, crisp break. The reset is pretty short.
If you are a "reset shooter" you'll love it.
The double strike capability intervenes only if you have a bad primer and it's a true double action, so you immediately encounter resistance in the trigger pull; but, as I said, it is a possibility that you will only encounter in case of a bad primer or during dry firing if you continue to pull the trigger without racking the slide.

You can better see what I mean in the G3 videos made by sootch00 and Graham Baates on youtube.

Thanks for that. I really appreciate the detailed explanation.

I'm starting a very busy day and will take a look at the vids later.

Take care.

I have 2 of his older brothers, PT111 G2 and they both are flawless. They are strategically placed inside our domicile for protection purposes.

You can spend more and get less, that's for sure. Taurus has upped their game in the last 5 years or so. Own a G2C that has been flawless at the range.

Here is the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 with the Sig P226 Mec-Gar mags with the Shapeways spacer. I think the gun looks funny with the 20 round mag in it, but I didn't buy it for concealed carry, I just wanted a cheap gun for my get home bag, and I'm happier with 20+1 rounds than 12+1.

The 20rd Mec-Gar with spacer:

After reading the last two post. I found a couple of old Sig mags I had and it looks like the Sig P226 and P228 will fit and work in a G3C. I didn't try it with ammo but they fit the well and hold the slide back when retracted. Next time I go to the range I will see if they feed and function in my gun.

Yes, my P226 magazines work in my G3, not viceversa because the 15 rounds G3 magazines are a little too short to fit in the P226 (I don't have 17 rounds G3 magazines to try).
There are some videos on youtube showing the G3 shooting with P226 magazines.

The 20rd and 18rd magazines that Mec-Gar makes for the Sig P226 have functioned without problem in the Millennium G2 PT111.

I checked for loading and firing the first round from a locked back slide, and I checked for last round hold open. I tested the magazines completely full and I did a few test with only 2 rounds loaded in the magazine to make sure they would load and fire the first round and lock back on the last round.

I had no problems.

I also ground down one of the 12-rounders that came with it, in case I ever do want to carry it:

I noticed on the Taurus website that the finish is listed as "Tenifer Matte Black"

The finish on my Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 is pretty poor.

Every time I look at my Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 I think "Why is there so much bare metal showing?" The mag release button has bare metal showing , the slide stop has bare metal showing, the manual thumb safety has bare metal showing..."

I look at the exteriors of my Glocks and the finish on the exterior is still perfect.

Ugh... this is what you get on a sub-$200 gun. I experience that initial joy from getting a functioning gun for under 200 bucks, but then everything else about the gun slowly starts to grate on my nerves.

But the new G3c is more expensive. I can't tell if it is because of the general increase in gun prices or if the G3c is more expensive because of the tenifer.
