Crazy Horse, the bull barrels like yours in 10MM 1911s are a good thing IMHO. Anything to add a little to the recoiling mass of the slide assembly if one is shooting the "real" 10MM ammo. I've been a fan of the 10MM since the '80s, and beginning with a Bren Ten, have owned a succession of 10MM pistols and revolvers. I had a Colt Delta and Kimber in 10MM with standard bushing type barrels. Would have preferred the heavier bull barrel in both.

Over time, the S&W 10MM pistols became my favorite. Still have a S&W pistol and Ruger revolver chambered in 10MM. In my dotage, 10MM and .357 are about the heaviest recoiling guns I shoot. Glad I ordered a .45 ACP cylinder with my .454 Casull years ago too;)

Rock185,
Yes Sir, that Bull barrel is thick (That's what she said...... LMAO)..... Thanks for the insight on how they compare to standard bushing barrel 10mm's.

I don't have confidence in using the wire to hold the spring back when disassembling my 10mm. My fear is that it will slide out and the spring will fly across. The spring seems fairly strong.

I was looking at Dawson Precision's:

https://dawsonprecision.com/guiderod-1911-5-bull-barrel-tool-less-by-dawson-precision/

I don't know how well it works. I inquired with Dawson Precision and they said it should work. The reviews have been all positive. I'm still mulling over whether to take a chance. Until then, I'll continue to use the wire when it comes time to cleaning my 10mm.

Looking forward to heading over to the range to verify my rear sight adjustments.

CH

I got the opportunity to go to the range anc adjust my sights.

It felt great. I was able to get it zeroed and ran it through an Advanced Pistol session at the indoor range. Target moved from distances of 5 yds to 15 yds.

It shot excellent with no jams. Adjustments to the rear sight were a breeze compared to M&P or SA.

Overall, very happy and no buyers remorse.

I'm going to have to try one of those. I don't really mind shoving something in the hole to get the spring out at home, I've got a number of different implements set up for basically the same task. At the range though I'd like to be able to break the gun down a little more easily then having to figure something out to shove in there.

Good shooting! Glad your happy with the pistol.

FWIW, Something I have done to eliminate messing with a full length guide rod, using a paper clip or similar, etc. to disassemble my bull barreled guns, is to use a closed end EGW reverse plug, and standard GI length recoil spring guide. With this set up, I field strip bull barrel guns the same as regular bushing barrel types. I retract the slide enough to remove the slide stop, remove the slide assembly, control the recoil spring, and remove spring with guide, reverse plug and barrel.

Rock185,
Have you noticed any difference in reliability or performance?

I was looking at Dawson precision's solution on the url below, but there's been no feedback on how it performs.

Your recommendation might be my path forward. It is cheaper.
Thx

Now you're ready for bear in Alaska!

Try shooting some 40sw out of it. It shouldn't work but it do.

My 10mm:

Crazy Horse,
I saw that gun and almost hit the "BUY NOW" button myself, but did not. I'm not big on the two tone finishes. I am glad you like the gun as I know of another person that has the same gun and loves his. Two days ago I also found a gun I had been looking for since they were introduced. It is the Springfield Armory Range Officer Elite in 10mm. That makes my fourth 10mm. This one popped up after I had passed the page it was on and when I refreshed it was there and I immediately bought it. This is my third Springfield Armory firearm and I have had great luck with them all, so when this one arrives at my FFL dealer, I will pick it up with several boxes of ammo in hand and head straight for the range. I have a like new in box Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup in 10mm, that due to its value, I do not shoot very often, so I wanted another 1911 in 10mm to shoot regularly.

LoL.
That's a bucket list trip on a motorcycle.

Love the XDM series. I was looking at that offering in 10mm, but most online dealers haven't had one in stock in 6 months. I do have the XDM elite in 9mm with the 4.5 inch barrel.

I keep hearing folks advising against shooting 40 S&W out if a 10mm. I have and XDM and S&W in 40. Somehow I think shooting 40 S&W out of my 10mm would be akin to 38 special +p out of my GP100. I think I'll continue to feed it 10mm. I like the feel of it too much.

Thx for the recommendation.

BigMike46,

That's a real nice 1911. I normally get them in a solid color, but this one peaked my interest.

Yes, I love springfield armory. Being a left handed shooter, I love how they're elite series offerings are truly ambidextrous, right out off the box.

The Delta elite I hear is there cats meow. I haven't seen one for sale in quite awhile.

I'm assuming by your handle, that you like the 45acp. Both times I've taken out my 10mm, I make sure to take a 1911 in 45acp. They don't hold as many rounds as a double stack, but in this time of shortages, it's a plus.

Good luck on your new purchase.

I'm sure this one won't be my last purchased in 10mm, and the XDM series is one of my favorites. Holding out to see if they make a 45acp in their elite style offerings, but in always on the hunt for the XDM in 10mm.

Take care

Crazy Horse,
You are correct. I do love my 45acp's as well. My main carry pistol is a Wilson Combat Stainless Professional in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 IWB holster with two mags carried opposite side IWB as well. I have several other 45's but the Wilson get the nod due to the fact that is has never malfunctioned in over 5000 rounds and still shoots to point of aim in a very tight group.....when I do my part. I have carried my S&W 1066 in 10mm since it too is a commander length barrel and actually fits the same holster quite nicely. Im going to look for another holster for the new SA that accomdates the rail. I have an IWB holster that I can carry the Colt Delta Elite in but I cannot carry the SA.
Here's the Wilson Combat

Very nice.

I’ve owned several 10MM’s over the years and keep going back to the Glock 20. Popped my 10MM cherry on a S&W 1006 back in the day. Picked up a G2 G20, Witness 10 Poly, S&W XDM, RI 10 then a G4 G20. Sold them all and only have the G4 G 20 left along with a Bullpup 10MM carbine. Of all the mentioned, I regret letting the 1006 go....:(

Out of all the different variants of 10MM pistols I get the best accuracy out of the G4 G20 with the KKM barrel so that’s the one I stuck with.

OP, your 10 MM 1911 is a good looking piece. If I ever go back to a single stack 1911 variant in 10MM I’ll give it a good look. Thanks for sharing.

Got to try power pistol yesterday. First time sitting that load and I didn't hear a loud crack like I normally hear when issuing power pistol on 9mm. It was a much lower more thunderous sound. Settled on 8.8-9.0 grains and 180 gr projectiles. After that, selliert and bellot didn't feel as good.

Results using programs that moved target from 3 to 17 yards.

Overall, it's one of the best purchases I've ever made for a handgun.

I too am a left handed shooter. If I had your gun it be over at the local smith getting an Ambi-Safety put on.
These days, I won't buy a 1911 without it or a gun that has a single side, right hand only safety.

Not much can be said that hasn’t already been said.....”Welcome to the family. Very nice looking pistol”. Etc. What hasn’t been mentioned though is good powders. 800x and BlueDot are the bees knees for performance powders. 800x gives great performance with low pressures. I tried PowerPistol, LongShot, and TiteGroup. They were ok. They did the job. But they didn’t bring out what I felt was the potential of the 10mm. Still wouldn’t want to be shot with a 10 loaded with those powders.

BigBore44,

I've been looking for Bluedot, but my efforts have not been fruitful. Fortunately I purchased a good quantity of PP before the shortages. I will find some Bluedot eventually. Once I do, I'll definitely be trying it. THX.

That's a good recommendation. I have a RIA 1911 in 45acp, and while some folks may knock them, they do come with the ambi safety. It's too bad more gun manufacturers overlook this. Same for the mag and slide release.

That's why SA and their XDM elite series always rank at the top of my preferred firearms. Now if they just made their XDM elite series in other calibers other than 9mm, I'd be all over it.
