I’ve bought 2 guns over the last 3 weeks and both time now I’ve been delayed. Anyone else experience this recently?

Sometimes - it's a bit of a time-zone thing.

My experience has been that if both coasts are in *operating hours* it can get hinky.

I used to have guys that I liked come by the shop at my fun-times to do transfers quite often and don't recall delays - though there may have been one or two.

I think delays are as often about NICS-administration was about the individuals... maybe, more so.

Todd.

I haven't bought any guns in the past three weeks, but have bought several since Jan. 2020. I've never had any problem with the NICS check.

Maybe regional ? ? ? or maybe luck??

Bought one in Feb and one a few weeks ago. Both took less than 10 minutes.

And my name is very common and generic.

My State uses the State Police for our NICS (so as to make a few bucks).
This afternoon, the backlog of checks was over 4000 deep.
Some transfers with CCL info go right through, while other CCL holders end up waiting up to
two weeks for the right to pick up the gun. No logic to any of it.

Oh yeah, last year the State Police informed dealers that there were to be
no more 'three day delay?, then come get your gun anyway' transfers conducted by dealers.
I do not know of any local dealers willing to challenge them on it either.

Bought a new 22LR rifle this past Monday. Got the ok in about 15 minutes. Son in law tried to buy a 22 LR handgun the prior week. Background check hasn't came back yet. Both of us have purchased guns in the past with no hangups? Seems to be hit or miss.

Not recently. But from about 2014 thru 2018 all 6 guns I bought were delayed the full 10 days, rifles, handguns and shotguns. No delays before, and no delays since for rifles, handguns and shotguns. It’s frustrating for sure.

The one that was delayed a few weeks ago got a “proceed” 2 days later. We’ll see on the one that got delayed today. Hopefully it will go through and I can get it on Saturday

I don’t need a NICS check.

My State’s carry license makes it so I don’t have to.

It was the same way in AL for about a year, maybe a little more, then they caught a sheriff giving permits to felons. Now we are back to the old way.

I’ve bought 2 so far this year with less than 10 min results, early last year one took close to an hour that’s the longest I’ve ever had to wait, so far.

That is why I have a state CC permit. In our state you don't have to run a background check when having a carry permit. That said, I also have a FFL but don't sell many guns locally. 90% of my sales are online consignments. My friend who owns the LGS has been getting several delays lately. My last check was online on the NICs E-check. It was a proceed almost instantly.

I have conducted checks in the last several months. The only delay was for a person who was buying her first firearm, so there was no record of her. Others were repeat buyers and theirs went through fast. The delay wasn’t long as I was contacted by the FBI in 14 hours and got the Proceed. Weird.
Before the election I had some delays and I have no explanation for them.

VARY variable. August 2020, had to travel 240 miles round trip to pick up a revolver. Salesman said NICS running 15 hours to 3 days  Lucked out and was about 2 hours.
November 2020 transfer to a local FFL. NICS took 4 days.
INSTAcheck my back part. I'd love to chat with the person that named it ... Understanding the "7 million new gun buyers" blada blada

-jb, sorta understanding o_O

I went to pick one up this morning. At 1100 am they said it was suddenly running 48-72 hours (CO, done through CBI). At 5:15pm they said come and get it.

It’s probably Chinese hackers screwing with us.

I use my CCL. Some Walmart will not use the CCL and run me through the machine, in which case, I ALWAYS for as long as I can remember, get delayed. Using my CCL it is in and out.

Of course, not sure how this new legislation all in the news that we cannot talk about will affect this, hopefully the extended 10 day check will still be bypassed by a CCL.

My son bought a nice little S&W revolver about 2 weeks ago at Sportsman's Warehouse in Denver..BGC took about 15 minutes.

I’m assuming staffing issues. It doesn’t really mean anything. When I used to work at a gun shop delays weren’t all that uncommon. Maybe 1 out of every 5-8 checks was a delay. Sometimes it was only an hour or two, sometimes a week or two.

I'm a small time FFL and I've noticed an increase in delays over the last several months. It's all volume related. With the gun and ammo surge they just can't keep up and hence you get delays. Nothing specific to your purchase, just that it happened when there was a good amount of transactions being processed at the same time. If they had a problem with you it would be declined and not just delayed.
