The SKS: Don’t Overlook It

This is what people really need, to get to play with, and learn to use guns they arent familiar with and learn to use/work them as they were meant to be used.

To many want to run everything like the one gun they are most familiar with, and that normally doesn't work out to well.

The humble SKS rifle might deserve a second look with the threat of assault weapons bans ever looming. These rifles feed from a 10 round fixed magazine which has been acceptable in most proposed bans for years. Look, it’s a worst case scenario idea but IF a ban does get passed (I hope it never does) the old SKS might be worth dusting off and pushing into service for the purposes of defending freedom.

They can be topped off fairly quickly using a 10 round stripper clip:

And they use the common and widely available .30 caliber Russian Short:

With the recent mass shootings and the powers that be in charge, we are closer to a ban than ever before. The SKS might be a decent bet.

The SKS - is an under-rated piece of equipment.

It checks all the boxes for an assault rifle, save the detachable mag. - but it can still be run pretty quick, and, as mentioned, it conforms to the Un-Constitutional Democrat National Socialist Tyranny.

Not anymore, the SKS is named in every "assault rifle" ban these days

Will offer this - from Commissar Comrade Feinstein, Democrat National Socialist, from the People's Republic of Californicatestan.

“(36) The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon’ means any of the following, regardless of country of manufacture or caliber of ammunition accepted:

“(A) A semiautomatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any 1 of the following:

“(i) A pistol grip.

“(ii) A forward grip.

“(iii) A folding, telescoping, or detachable stock.

“(iv) A grenade launcher or rocket launcher.

“(v) A barrel shroud.

“(vi) A threaded barrel.

Don't think the SKS fits the Bill.

That's an old bill from 2017 and I only just skimmed it, but I didn't see that it named the SKS anywhere. It also has a grandfather clause so any legally owned "assault weapon" at the time of enactment would remain legal. Who knows if that'll change going forward.

Honestly I don't think the Democrats care all that much nor do I think they have support for any sort of sweeping gun legislation in the Senate even in their own party. I think they're even short of votes needed to pass universal background checks at this point. Plus you still have the courts as a fallback if necessary.

I wish the parties would both drop control as a wedge issue. Gun violence is a very real problem in this country, and if both sides would be honest about it and work on fixing things like poverty and racial inequality we would accomplish far more than anything we could ever accomplish with more meaningless gun restrictions. It won't happen because our political system is essentially broken at this point but I digress.

A stock Russian, Chinese, etc. SKS probably would be OK in that definition above, but if you put one of the aftermarket stocks that seem to be so popular on it, or had one of the Yugo guns with a grenade launcher, etc, you might not make it.

You also have to learn to read those requirements. I sometimes think Alan Greenspan helped to write some of them......

"I know you think you understand what you thought I said but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant”.

This is somewhat deceiving if you arent paying attention....

A lot of people might think that wouldn't apply to the SKS.

I think a ton of people are absolutely missing the point of the thread.

This isn’t SKS vs AK or AR, but just a notice that an SKS might be one of the better defensive rifle options in a worse case scenario SHOULD a ban ultimately pass. Many older members (me included) own one or more of them and they are gathering dust. Just might be worth dusting them off soon.

Just to be perfectly clear, this quote provided above is the topic of this discussion.
While its nice to hear some superfluous things about this or that, the bottom line ladys and gentlemen is.....the government is going to outright ban certain types of firearms, perhaps making overnight, millions of felons, or ram through such onerous marxist driven agendas that will require an owner to surrender his/ her property or face some awfull drummed up penalties. The point is ....ignore this at your own peril
Registration has always lead to confiscation, confiscation has always resulted in democide.
Here's that line in the sand thing again
