Are these any good? Midway has them at a birthday discount for $75. Anybody have pros or cons they'd like to share? I still have a couple more days on my discount.

They also have a Competition Electronics ProChrono LTD for $92. Of the two, which would be the best for the money? I’m all about inexpensive, but if inexpensive means “doesn’t work” then I’m just wasting time and money.

It’s all hollow inside, 2 sensors and a watch display. You going to chrono rifle or pistol?

if rifle, I suggest the magnetospeed, about $155 on sale

I have the Prochrono LTD and like it. It uses Bluetooth to send data to the app and the connection has proven reliable for me. I’ve not used the Caldwell but it appears to require a hardwired connection for data transfer. Not sure if that matters but I find one less trip hazard a plus. The screens can be a hassle to use, especially in breezy days, but mine seems to function fine without them as long as there is no direct sunlight on the sensors. I find the app pretty easy to use although adding/editing shot strings to be a bit cumbersome and it only allows one picture per shot string. You can add bullet weight info for power factor calculations and it will go out and gather temperature and barometric pressure information if that matters to you. The app will even read the velocity aloud after each shot, FWIW.

I haven't shot mine (yet) but I understand Competition Electronics will repair/replace any of theirs if they die for whatever reason for 1/2 the current price.
(lots of chronos seem to die from lead posioning)
I have a older CE chrono and like it. I went with the wired USB connection and connect it to a cheap ($149 on sale) laptop. (note you don't have to) Screen on the laptop is
bigger and the laptop was cheaper than my phone in case it gets broken. Nice to be able to save results into a CSV file (opens with Excell etc) for later reference.

One thing to be aware of if using a scoped rifle is the bullet path is lower than the sight line up close.
When I chrono I just shoot for chrono #s, my only concern is to get the bullets over the chrono.

My Caldwell Chrony2 transfers data to a free Caldwell app on my phone.

I have spotty wifi here, worse outside. Never had a problem here at the house. I do have concerns at my remote rifle range. I’m no tech guy so maybe they speak to each other with no wifi/data?

I had one. It worked okay but was a little light sensitive. This one was found in the trash at the range with a bullet through it. I took it home, opened it, found a wire had been shot clean thru, fixed it, and used it for a while. Ended up giving it to a friend because I already had a Crony.

Now I want a Labradar :)
nice! Bullet hole don’t stop chonos!

My Caldwell works great, only thing is I cant get the app to work on my droid. That kinda blows but other then that it works well.

Use small dowel rods in place of the metal rods it may save your chronograph also dont let anybody use it unless you know they will replace it.

Well, I ordered the Caldwell chronograph today. Here’s hoping that I have a good experience with it. For the price, it was hard to pass up. If the phone hookup works, that will be a plus, but it’s not like I’m going to be doing strings of 50 or 100 shots. I mainly just want one to give me a good measure of 5-10 rounds; enough to tell me what my loads are doing in my guns.
