Ported barrels as typically found on Browning target shotguns are also very loud to thew folks on either side of the shooter. The poly choke I can deal with it but I have seen them come apart in competitions (spotshoot), it would be better to cut it off & put on a normal choke.
The one that I don't like is the Cutts Compensator those are loud even with hearing protection if they are shooting next to me.
I can only see through my experiences but would think if you were smooth and even with your swing the differences wouldn't be as noticeable. If you tend to use a snap swing the small amount of extra weight might be more noticeable. When taking into consideration the extra weight of two barrels such as a SxS, over-under or longer barrels the adjustable choke would become a non-issue.Use longer barrels and that issue goes away.
Actually, many well-made SxS guns come in weighing less than a pump with a polychoke. Even my Ithaca 37 wasn't as light as my SxSI can only see through my experiences but would think if you were smooth and even with your swing the differences wouldn't be as noticeable. It will always boil down to what your happy with.

Hard to beat that kind of fingertip pattern versatility. Just a very practical thing to have on a working shotgun. Tried mine on some frontline trap one ounce loads #8s set on imp.modified pump light weight ithaca 37. Broke them very handily. was pleasantly suprised. Started with 1 1/8 loads but they beating me up pretty good. Had choke on modified. Was breaking good but like I said was beating me up. Went to some lighter 1 oz loads and screwed the choke to imp. Modified. Broke them well on that setting. Pretty darn happy with the setup. It sounds like a great idea for sporting clays where you can change between" in your face" patterns or 60 yard bird breaking patterns
