There are some awesome examples of John Browning’s masterpiece! As much as I love the look and feel, I only have three 1911’s...

A 4.5” Ruger SR 1911 .45:

A 5” Springfield Loaded .45:

and a 6” Springfield V-16 .45 Super:

and a 1911-ish Kimber Micro 9:

The 1911 is one of my favorite guns to shoot. No matter the caliber, they just feel right in my hands.

how do you guys like your Micro 9s? Been eyeing them since they seem to be getting on the local shelves. I have not yet tried a 1911, full size or otherwise.

It’s not a true 1911, but it has a lot of similarities to the general design and operation.

I got mine about a year ago, so far it has been a good little gun. To date, 100% reliable with 115 and 124 gr fmj and Hornady 115 gr Critical Defense and Federal 150 gr Micro HST.

I did get a little rub-blister on my shooting hand thumb from the safety lever after shooting 150 straight through it, other than that oddity it was comfy and the easy to see sights helped it shoot well for me. This is a 30 shots at 10 yds-two handed target below.

I will point out the only “ funky” thing I have found about the Micro 9; the magazine floor plate is “backwards” compared to almost every other semi auto magazine. What I mean by that is the floor plate has a ledge that sticks out past the magazine body to the rear, rather than out past the front. If you are one who relies a lot on feel while doing reloads, like I do, it may be a bit weird until you’re used to it. If you are not a “feel” type reloader it shouldn’t be anything you’ll notice.

If you’re looking for a 1911-ish sub-compact carry gun I think the Micro 9 is a darn fine option. :)

Stay safe.

I like mine, take down is a little different, but operation is effectively the same, the heavier weight of the kimber and sigs help with recoil so they are shootable. The Sig P238 is about as shootable as a micro .380 gets in my book.

I still want a commander model in .45, but the Kimber 9mm CDP kind of fills the officer model niche at least for now, and I know they are different, but, if I were to buy an officer model I would most likely get it in 9mm, not .45 so, like it said, the Kimber cdp9 kind of fills that niche..

Here’s my American Tactical M1911 Military.

I wanted a 1911 A1 clone just for the hell of it, but when looking around I found that most of the GI models had lower and beveled election ports or sights that were to big. The AT had the correct ejection port and the sights were pretty close. The magazine and grips that came with the gun were no where close. So I put on an original set of GI plastic grips and replaced the magazine.
The gun is a great shooter but I don’t like the roll markings so, I’m thinking about getting one of the SDS 1911 A1 US Army models.

I am a lefty and don't play well with the 1911. For some reason the web of my hand releases tension the grip safety when I deactivate the thumb safety. I enjoy shooting the 1911 though so I was lucky enough to pick up a Nighthawk GRP to serve as my BBQ/open carry retirement gun when I move out of my current state. It is extremely accurate and beautifully made.

Here are a couple of pictures. One of the gun and one shooting it on a recent fishing trip (I alway have to shoot no matter what kind of trip I am on. And sometimes fish are onry and need to be shot.)

The stag gripped gun looks like the gun I put together in the early 80s for IPSC competions. I liked those Millet sights. I didn't have the "Longmire" grips though.

Very nice 1911s! Especially fond of the Colt Special Combat .45 and the two-tone Colt MK IV Series 80 with those great looking stag grips!
