A Good Day to Shoot Some 22s

.22s are ready to rumble next range trip planned for tomorrow. I only have a few of each, rifles and handguns, but, it should be enough to kill a few hours.

I just picked up another rimfire rifle out of the 10-day regulatory penalty box last night. I have to drop some stuff off for my high schooler, then I’m hoping to hit the range and try it out. :thumbup:

Marksman, nice assortment of .22s. I always have a .22 when I go to the range. In fact, tomorrow I'm meeting up with a coworker at the range. He's bringing his daughters (11 and 13 yo) and wants me to help teach them. I told him I'm bringing some .22s for them. I'm bringing my 11 yo son and he likes the .22s as well. It should be a fun time.
Maybe I'll snap a pic or two, if I remember to.

Yep. Still got mine, bought in mid--1960's in upstate NY on our way out to Colorado. Bolt rifle, detachable magazine, Short, Long, or Long Rifle.

I THINK mine was the Model 11, not the Model 66, which was a semiauto, but I haven't reviewed the model designations lately --like in the last twenty years.

Lifetime guarantee on the stock, could use another new stock, but I don't think anybody at Remington would remember these, let alone know where they're kept to honor the guarantee.

I remember being "inspected" by a Game Warden in the late 70s and him getting to be a bit aggressive ("felony,","Leavenworth," "N years," etc) about it not having a serial number..

He took it back to his truck and called HQ about it, finally, about ten minutes later, came back and was gracious about not knowing that those .22 pre-1968 rifles (and shotguns) did not require serial numbers.

Made it to the range with my .22s, and a couple of other toys. The kids had a good time. My coworker's daughters enjoyed the various .22s. I haven't snapped a pic, but we took the Taurus 92 revolver, I use it for the first few shots for novice shooters. That way there is no slide or cases moving around. Let them get comfortable with shooting at first. Then the Colt (Walther) Gold Cup 1911 (later on I put the suppressor on it). Then the Walther P22 and the Ruger MkII. My other buddy's S&W 422 and Beretta 71. Then to move them up, the Ruger Single Seven in 327 Fed Mag shooting 32 S&W Long ammo; some shots of 38 Spcl out of a .357 revolver. And finish up the outing with the Ruger 10/22 integrally suppressed. Their dad had them take a shot or two out of his 9MM XD as well.
My son shot a couple of mags out my buddy's FN FiveSeven too!
 
I've been out in the garden these last couple of weeks doing some off hand practice with the .22. I went down the range last weekend and shot on the running boar range. First visit in 18 months because of the lurgy pandemic Not as rusty as I thought I'd be and came away happy. Will be back next weekend practicing for a running boar comp on the 1st june.

Love the Anschutz! One of these years I am going to get a running boar rifle like that :thumbup:.

Its a Anschutz 64 MS R walnut. A discontinued model that I saw in my Lgs a few years back. I traded in my old Brno CZ that was a great hunting rifle but too long and light for the running boar range and field target shooting. I'm very pleased with the Anschutz and it shoots CCI standard round really accurately. I liked the look of the Anschutz MPR first but when I handled one and then the MS the MS won.

Like the Remington 66
My cousin was given one by his neighborhood friend back in the mid 1960's.
Kids mother hated guns. Always remember that gun.
He and his sister would come up to our farm in Idaho in the summer. They lived in Los Angeles. Boy did they have fun on the farm.
 
A couple of you mentioned a lack of 22lr ammo at reasonable prices. Walmart sells 22lr at close to pre-pandemic prices. I have bought 22lr ammo there for $.05 and $.055 a round. Also found 22lr at $.055 a round at Bass Pro.

At Walmart if you can find out when they get their deliveries and show up at that time you can ask if they got any ammo in and find out if some of it is 22lr. It may be hit and miss but if you have a Walmart close it may be a option to find cheap 22lr.

Recently I have a purchased 4 to 5000 rounds of 22lr this way in the last couple months.

Around here you can find 22lr @ $ .07/ round about half the time you go looking for it.
The problem now is you can only buy 1 box at a time ( but the "problem" is also the reason it is available....)
 
It looks like you’re all well prepared for the event. Out here when it floods, which isn’t all that often because we’re in a drought again, everything washes away :thumbdown:.

Hopefully the water will recede soon and you can get back out there.

Lately any day that you can go and shoot some .22 is a great day! Hopefully I'll get to resupply before I run too low to have fun anymore though. There are a fair bunch of people selling their .22's due to lack of any available ammo from what I have discussed with other gun guys I know.
 
Yup I love my .22s. I was big into surplus ammo and milsurps in the 90s, 2ks. Then had torn rotator cuffs and surgery in 2007 and 2010. That took the fun out of those. Hey OP whats the little laminated bolt action? I like the youth models. Ahh Crickett.

Yep. It’s a Cricket. It belongs to my daughter, but I enjoy playing with it.
