Replacement Uberti .357 competition Range report

Uberti finally sent me a replacement for the .357 el patron competition that went back with a non working fp safety (gun will not fire) and a second time for a stretched frame with extreme endshake after 300 rounds. The gunsmith was unable to fix it, uberti had the gun destroyed and a new replacement ordered in January.

It looks great, it's a brand new gun!with nice case color. Today I fired one cylinder and had two fire, and 4 light strikes, now it will not fire a round. I can feel the firing pin safety dragging on the trigger, and catching so that's the issue.

Three strikes you are out Uberti. The replacement gun is a piece of garbage. Refund or small claims court time folks.

Wow, I must say I'm truly shocked by your experience with Uberti. My personal experience has been nothing but positive. Too bad you are disappointed and that Uberti has lost a customer.
Not that you should have to work on a new gun, but I know that old style fixed firing pin hammers are available for the new style El Patron revolvers. That may be an option.
 
Uberti should have left the damn things alone! Traditional 4 clicks and an extended cylinder rod for a safety. Was a perfect platform for a traditional 1873.
 
I got lucky, apparently. I bought a NiB Uberti a few months ago, and it's been fine.

Sorry to hear that the OP has had so many troubles with them. :(

Indeed, I have a pre-safety EL Patron in .45 Colt and it's been totally reliable. The tuning/timing is perfect. I took some meat off the end of the cylinder pin so that when it's pushed all the way in, it still fires. Last thing I need is to have to pull the trigger on a bear or wolf, and get a CLICK because the pin got pushed all the way in accidentally. Empty chamber under the firing pin is the best safety.

What kind of loads were those 300 you fired? The .357 is kind of high pressure. I have an Uberti in .357, but I keep my loads just a bit hotter than a .38spl. It's an old gun, got it used, I'm sure it's had more than a few full power .357's through it, and is in good condition.

You didn't get lucky. That is the norm, contrary to what this thread says.
 
Just curious, were you using factory ammo or reloads?

If reloads, what primer?

My older Uberti with the four clicks has, thankfully, been trouble free. Really like the gun.

Possibly /probably user error. Depending on trigger pull / early let off. The few I've worked on worked very well. Some Cowboy shooters don't pull the trigger all the way, and some let off the trigger too soon. Techniques make a difference. The new system may be harder to adapt to when the shooter goes from old to new.
With an empty cylinder, the OP should be able to see the firing pin move forward when the trigger is pulled (hamme down). That will give an idea of where the trigger must be when the hammer is down. A delete is easy to install/ remove, just remember to load 5 when it's in. Uberti makes a very fine product. It's when customers misuse revolvers /don't understand and cry "foul" that cause the manufacturers to change design . . . Ruger knows all about that . . .

Thanks for your replies its definitely not user error or the ammo or primers. I can feel a hitch and a grind when I pull the trigger.
Just like with the first one I had and sent back twice. The Gunsmith at Benelli will have no problem duplicating my results. I am sure they will polish or replace the safety rod just like they did before. Will that fix the gun? Who knows. But the first one had a serious issue with the frame stretching out of spec after firing 300 rounds, all ,38 special level.
I am sure Uberti makes a wonderful product and my small sample of two revolvers are the only ones they have made that are worthless crap.
 
I'm pretty sure .38 spl rounds didn't stretch the frame. I shoot heavy 45C rounds in open top conversions with no trouble. The cyl window was apparently out of spec (couldn't repair it) which would give you light strikes . . .
I'm sure it's not user error in your case since most Cowboy shooters have no problem with the new actions. You must just be "un-lucky"? Maybe a Pietta (4 clicker) would be better? I'm picking one up next week (used) and will set it up to the same spec as my old (and favorite) El Patron Comp. (minus the lower and wider hammer spur).

Be as sure as you like but the FACT remains 300 rounds of .38 spl. Stretched the frame beyond repair. witnessed the frame stretch first hand. It developed the worst endshake I have ever seen on a revolver.

Hence the gunsmith note in my post above that the endshake could not be fixed. Result, First new Uberti destroyed by Benelli. New gun sent over 8 months later.

My replacement the second gun, is with the gunsmith getting evaluated as of 7/20.

Coming up on 8 weeks now...
 
And the final word: Uberti/Stoeger Benelli Service in MD. was unable to fix the second el patron they sent me! Apparently it was severely out of Spec and will also be destroyed. They gave me the option of waiting another few months for my third new gun or getting a full refund. Last week I received the check and deposited it.
I would strongly urge anyone considering their SAA models to think real hard about buying a new one and exercise extreme caution on your first range trip.
