That second guy did not inspire any confidence in his abilities.

Bobbing a hammer is one thing. Lightening a hammer to allow for a radically lighter double action trigger pull is another. Here's a S&W Model 625 hammer that I lightened for that purpose. Removing all that weight let me get the double action trigger pull down to 4lbs and is 100% reliable with Federal primers. Just the thing for competition. I have a different of springs that I drop in when using anything other than Federal primers. Those springs increase the trigger pull to 5½ lbs and will set off every primer on the shelf.

That second guy's job didn't come out as bad as I expected , but holy **** was that incredibly unprofessional.

I don't get "it".

What amazes me is that the dude in the second video would think that anyone would want to watch that slow motion train wreck.

Undoubtedly! No way to prevent that from getting into the gun and no way to effectively remove it without disassembly, which is what should be done for that kind of work.

Kind of smarted to see ol' Larry bobbing the hammer on a Model 15. Better to have done one of the Cult Object 3" M10 conversions.

And don't polish the back of the cut hammer so shiny. It will glint in your eye if the light is behind you.

The second guy chopping on an assembled gun was just ugly.

What gets me is the second guy obviously wasn’t familiar with the job. I personally can’t imagine making a how to video about anything I’m not extremely familiar with, and have done more times than I can count.

If I’m learning as I go, I’m definitely not videoing it, unless it’s for my own use…. Think reassembly.

I just don’t understand what possesses people to make videos about stuff when they obviously don’t know what they’re doing. I’m also very grateful for those that make videos that DO know what they’re doing, they are a great resource.

To be clear, I have no objection to a diy, learn as you go project… on your on property.

I’ve rebuilt a few a rear ends, and replaced some ring gear and pinion sets. I will not be making a video about it., theirs no telling the things, tips, and tricks I don’t know about the process and I know it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never had one eat itself but that’s not a very high standard.

Not to pile on, but the second one made me genuinely apprehensive just watching. And who entrusted their nice j-frame to Joe Dremel to modify? It was like watching Tessio prepare a hit gat for Michael. After I get the spur off I’ll reuse the painter’s tape to fasten the piece behind the toilet tank…
