Compare and contrast

I'm only 26 years old, so I was eight years old when the first AWB took effect.

I'm curious about how the current overall atmosphere today compares or differs from the atmosphere in 1994. I'm hoping to avoid discussing personal stances on political issues. I am instead more interested in learning what actually happened leading up to the first AWB and what types of things I can learn from it. What differences between than and now may affect what type of legislation is introduced/passed?

Liberal Democrats hate guns. Clinton was popular and the media loved him, so they went for big gun control measures. Did I mention that liberals hate guns? Obama is popular (or enough to get re-elected) and the media loves him, so they will use tragic events to cynically go for big gun control again.

Oversimplification? Nah, not really.
