Or for anyone who has a user guide in the German language...

What do you call the part that flips between feuer and gesichert? In english we call it the "safety", but that's a malapropism. Safety is a condition, a state of being, not a machine part.

Sicherheitsschalter is safety selector

Wahlschalter is selector switch

The German for SAFE is Gesichert, as on the Luger below.

It should be called Gesichertsschalter. But I don’t know what they actually call it…die Sicherung (safety device) as presented above makes perfect sense.

In English a safety can be either,a device, a football score or a billiard shot.:)

Just like as in English, there are many words in German that can be used for that part.
Here are a few:

Pistolensicherungshebel

Sicherheitshebel.l Also means safety pin.

Sicherheitssperre

der Sicherungsbügel

die Abzugssicherung Note how it changes gender there?

die Sicherung, as natman said is probably more commonly used.

The few gun schematics in German I've seen use 'die Sicherung.'

I would have thought "safety", in this sense, was short for "safety catch". I suppose "safety lever" or something similar would be OK too. Terms tend to get shortened when the long form serves no essential purpose, and everyone understands the short form.

Discussions about nomenclature have too much of a tendency to descend into nit-picking and pedantry for me to enjoy them, even though I like to try and use clear, correct language for things.

And that one is usually misquoted, too. The Ugly American was the guy who got out amongst the commoners and got his hands dirty helping make improvements. The "suits" were the useless ones damaging to our reputation.

Spent seven weeks in Germany on a company trip. Never thought to ask that question. Maybe next year when I go back again I will ask a local.

I try to fill in my location in the profil
You should be able to click the "Your Profile Page" by clicking your User Name (Nutzername) at the top of this, or similar pages.
Once there, you can click in the "Location" area. This will send you to Google Maps. You should be able to enter text in the Maps text window to be recorded. You should be prompted to Save that information.

At least on a desktop--I have not tried any of that on a mobile device, which tend to be different in use.

I learn something every day on here :)
