are there commercial dummy rounds vendor?

this is regarding the rust shooting. please don't get into any Baldwin bashing / politics or anything similar it gets tiresome.

i am genuinely intrigued. are there major manufacturer commercial vendors for movie dummy rounds? I would have thought that they can just make dummy rounds as we would make them without powder and primer. Are blanks always from a major manufacturer ?

they keep going on about discovering starline brass and stated it is from reloaded ammunition. as if that gives the answer to the question they are asking as to how the live rounds got there. the live rounds could have been any major brand.

I'm not sure what brand they are, but we order "manufactured" blanks from a supplier for the M-1 Garands we use in our Honor Guard duties for my American Legion Post. As a matter of fact, a couple of years ago we switched brands because the blanks we had been ordering weren't sealed well, and the powder kept spilling out, causing misfires.
BTW, I guess it's been 7 or 8 years ago now, but I remember when one of the guys blew 3 holes through the American Flag with a blank firing M-1 Garand at a funeral. He was on the end of the line, next to the flag holder, and just as it came time to fire the 3 volleys, the wind picked up, blowing the flag across, right in front of his rifle barrel - probably no more than 2 feet from the muzzle. He fired 3 times anyway, resulting in 3 holes through the flag.

Starline doesn’t make ammunition, just brass. That is probably why they are saying it was “reloaded ammunition”. Starline brass is used by some smaller ammo makers. HSM uses their brass. I think Black Hills did too.

i also did have blackhills 357 mag ammo that was loaded with starline brass in the past.

blanks, i guess do have to come from a specialized company as with the crimping and determining what powder gives the best flash as well as work to cycle the gun. would have thought the armorer can just make their own dummy rounds with whatever brass so long as the base of the cartridge is not visible.

Yes, starline is used by smaller ammo producers, and is generally regarded as quality and economical brass, and is widely available. Possible even that major dummy round manufacturers had to go to a different brass supplier due to the ammo shortage.

What doesnt make sense to me is dummy rounds have a "projectile" while blanks are crimped. Dummy rounds are for scenes where a magazine is being loaded or shown, or when the show a close up of rounds going in the chamber. They have no use in a scene where the gun is firing since they have no powder

You can go on eBay and buy dummy rounds in many calibers and gauges. Possibly prop companies do just that, but seeing as how easy it is for anyone with even the most rudimentary reloading equipment to make their own I suspect many prop companies probably make their own. That's dummy rounds, not blanks. I just bought some twelve and twenty gauge dummy rounds for training purposes because I don't load shot shells.

Blank round are another matter. If you're set up for them they can be made by a reloader as well, but there are companies that supply blank rounds for the industry.

There's companies that specialize in it, and specifically for props. Dummy rounds, blanks, etc. Starline = reloads, lol......that's a good one. Plenty of small ammo companies use starline headstamped brass for new production ammo...it's expensive to buy the dies for a head stamp, and the initial order minimum requirements from most of the brass makers is prohibitive unless you are sitting on a pile of spare cash.

The theater company in Orlando my wife sold a couple of her Singers to used sim-fire oxy-propane-powered guns. Made from the ground up to look like cartridge guns but they use a gas cylinder and spark plug to fire. They even eject real-looking "brass." Supposed to be safer than blanks and more like the real deal in a live performance.

for revolvers apart from loading i think it is for shots where the gun is pointed at the camera showing all the chambers loaded.

which is why i am wondering why they are pouncing on the brass being starline. you could have dummy rds made with whatever brass. the police were looking at rounds from the prop supplier especially those using starline brass.

i saw a segment on that. i suspect it was after the incident occurred. pretty cool.
