Commercial or Handmade Dummy Rounds

Hi,

I've been looking for commercial dummy rounds and can find all I want in the Calibers I don't need. 30-06, 308, 7.62x39, 223, 300 win mag, 270, 5.56, 243, 338 and a lot of pistol calibers.

What I need are for practicing rapid fire in cmp matches with Swiss 7.5x55 K31. I need to practice shooting 10 rounds in 80 seconds with this and several other bolt actions. Ten Snap Caps even if I could find this caliber at 13.99 for two would cost 70 bucks. I also need 7.62x54, 6.5x55, m1carbine rounds, and 30-06.

The other problem I have is that the heavier home made version with the standard projectiles, even sand or heavy brass cleaning media as filler in the case, don't eject the same or as quickly because they have the bullet attached which in a live situation has already been shot. I think they are a bit heavy.

Does anyone know of a commercial place that sells all calibers of dummy rounds, or of a bullet that is maybe hard plastic so as not to be so heavy?

Any ideas that you have used are much appreciated.!!

Thank you very much for the reply. I need 10 for my 30-06, 10 for my 7.5x55, and 10 for my finish m39 mosin in 308. Later I'll try to find something for my Swedish Mauser in 6.5x5 and k98 in 8mm.

So for now around 30. That's alot of snap caps at 13.99 for 2.

I'm thinking about small game but I bet they would still take down deer sized game.

They shoot good to 50 yds but after that they start getting crazy.

I think "snap caps" are different than "dummy rounds". It is my understanding that snap caps have some sort of spring loaded and or resilient "primer" cushioning action.

If you want it to be a snap cap fill the primer pocket with RTV silicone.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of fun with them.

I agree with you that adding RTV Silicone will make them easier on the firing pin. I never have quite figured out how with the primer absent, the firing pin gets stressed anyway? But, I'm happy to put some RTV Silicone in the primer pockets. No big deal at all.

If it isn't spring retained then it causes pinging. Think of hitting a rivet with a hammer.

I have a lot happening right now so it may take a few days to get them together & shiped.

Remember these are lethal not Riot bullets. I don't recall the charge so if you make live ammo I would start around 8gn of Red Dot or Bullseye & work up. I would not go over 15gn. It seems my load may have been 11gn of a powder just a little faster then Bullseye but I doubt you can find the same powder I use. I buy odd powders & work my own data. It is more fun that way.

Handmade Dummy Rounds

Hey everyone Kingmt sent me some of his plastic projectiles. They are available around. Just google or search, plastic 30 cal or what ever cal projectiles and a few sites come up.

I made one for an experiment and plan to make the rest today. I am getting a lee crimp die so that they don't move at all. These probably wouldn't move anyway. They are pretty tight, but I want to crimp them to be sure this time.

The decreased weight makes them eject much better. The others didn't eject so well with the added weight of the copper projectile and went up and came down and hit me on the head sometimes with the point of the projectile as they were top heavy. These are if anything tail heavy as they would normally be as an empty case.

Anyway I took a couple of pictures for y'all to see.

Those don't look like what I sent. What I sent was all dusty

I wouldn't crimp. If they ever did comr lose you could put a dot of crazy glue in the neck then seat the bullet. I don't ser them ever comming lose tho.
