I'll fly to DFW and then drive up into Oklahoma. I'm going to take my 308 and maybe my 1911 45acp with 200gr cast bullets just for fun. The goal is to just bring back a cooler full of pork! And have a ton of fun doing it of course.

Good luck and have fun! If your goal is good meat, don't bother with the great big old boars if you have the opportunity to shoot sounders. Shoot boars under 100 lbs or just shoot sows, ideally under 150 lbs. Yeah, with enough work you can make stinky old boar meat edible and if you enjoy that sort of work, big old boars will challenge you in creativity and time, or you can just make them into sausage.

Just shoot the smaller hogs. They are more challenging than the lumbering giants.

This post made me realize, again, that I take for granted what I literally have available on my property. When we run out of pig meat I go hunting.
Ice fishing. I’ve wanted to try that but we don’t have ice fishing here.
It’s a grass is greener thing I think. I’m dreaming about going to Alabama and hunt whitetails and pigs. Other People dream of coming out here for elk. It’s easy to take what you have for granted. As much as I think pigs are great I’m glad they are not ripping up my land.

So true. I have whitetail and pigs out the kazoo and have taken some nice bucks. I have always wanted to go on a decent Elk hunt. It does not have to be one of those huge trophies, just a nice hunt with a decent success rate. Those hunts get expensive these days plus having to draw and wait your turn. Back to the pigs. I can't even give them away anymore we have so many. I just leave them for the critters as they have to eat to...

At that point I can understand why some people don’t think of them as a resource and only a burden. I don’t blame them for that as I said if I had them destroying crops and wild life habitat around me I’d be less than pleased.
I’m fortunate enough that my families’ land in Alabama doesn’t have any pigs , but I know that is likely to change as the decades roll on and the pigs keep spreading.

I bet you are getting angry for your trip. What day does your hunt start?
Tomorrow afternoon or Thursday?
Years ago when I use to drive from Upstate New York to Southwest Florida I only seen two wild hogs along the highway.
My ex insurance agent moved to the Dallas area when he retired so he could hunt hogs and his new house was on a big lake so he could go catfish fishing from his back yard. His two favorite things to do.
Good luck and post up some pictures and tell use about your hunt and trip.

I try to get out twice a year to help thin out the huge number of hogs we have here on Florida’s Space Coast.

I’ve used handguns in .357, .44 Mag, .44 AutoMag and .45ACP and rifles in .358 Norma Mag (loaded down to .35 Rem level) and .450 Marlin. Hits behind the ear to break the spine have worked best.

This thread reminded me I have no hog meat left and need to get off my butt. Gonna use a suppressed AR pistol in 7.62X39 next!

Nice size hog hanging there. How big do they get in your area if Florida?
My oldest son will be moving to the Ft Myers area some time this year. He will be looking for a place over there to go hog hunting.

Small world, I lived in ft Myers through high school. They definitely have pigs in the rural areas east of town.

When I lived in Upstate New York I would stay to Ft Myers Beach and go fish over to the Sanibel pier. Sheepheads mid February to mid March then Spanish mackerel after the sheepheads.

Ft Myers Beach really went up with all the hight rises. I wouldn't go back there now because of the traffic. I use to like the Italian fisherman restaurant on the south end of the island.

Once the traffic on ft Myers Beach got bad I use to stay at the Seachest motel on 41 north in Ft Myers.
That big Banyon tree at the Edison Estate I'd huge.
It's been awhile since I traveled to Florida.

We had 0 issues and no Hogs up until about 4 years ago. They are moving in places that never had issues.

Driving down the highway returning from the range and I saw Momma Pig and must have been 10 piglets snorting around in the drainage ditch!
They are everywhere!

I've collected hogs from 60 to over 250 lbs. Many of the outfitters here trap and castrate hogs to make them better on the table.
I used to love running after the dogs, but now at age 76 I hunt from blinds.

Jealous! Pig hunt is on my list. Luckily we dont have any or very very few here. But im only about 200 miles north of Tulsa. Armadillos have made it to the Kaw River, but i have yet to see one north of it. Ten to fifteen years ago they were barely crossing the OK-KS border. Pigs wont be too far behind.

Im not gonna lie, as a child of the 90s with video games and war movies galore, that helicopter pig hunting looks mighty fun...

Enjoy your hunt.

I recently went to Texas and shot two nice boars. One with a Remington Model 81, 300 Savage, at about 4 or 5 yards and another at about 70 yards with a Marlin 336 35 Remington. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Sitting here in DFW waiting for my flight home. I had an incredible time with cheating fool outfitter. My cooler weighed 100 pounds at check in. That's most of the meat from four sows. We killed a total of 9 hogs. We used a combination of spot and stalk, drives, and thermal sights. Awesome folks incredible experience.

NEVER USE PAYLESS CAR RENTAL in DFW. What a miserable experience. It took me 2 hours after check in to finally get a vehicle and it wasn't even the truck that I reserved. 20220211_141708.jpg
