I don't know how because they aren't per register but per business. All of a Walmart submits their transactions through one system. So all should be 5310: Discount stores.
Some pad sites are different. So, the gas station at Costco is listed as a gas station not a discount store.
Though the Costco one is fun in another way, where codes can be weird. Their gas is 5542 for "automated fuel dispensers" instead of 5541 "Service Stations (with or without Ancillary services)" so your cash back on gas purchases probably won't count Costco.
I suspect aside from the gun counter at Cabelas not getting the MCC code for Gun Store, that any number of stores might add more general sporting goods to mask this coding.

They can try that, but it's becoming illegal. No federal law but some new state and local ones, some court rulings on them, etc. For the unbanked and underbanked, but has the effect that anyone can do untraceable cash purchases. I suspect it'll spread.Cash is already on the way out here. Increasing numbers of merchants won't take it.
