It doesn't matter at all, because that isn't their goal/concern.

This is, in all likelihood, political hoodwinking to subvert and circumvent the Second Amendment restrictions, and various other laws and court decisions, which limit what the government can do with respect to gun restrictions.

There are restrictions on the government with respect to infringing on the RKBA, which in recent decades has been seeing a lot of support contrary to gun control activist concerns. If these matters are seen as issues of "private business", then there aren't any of those pesky restrictions to be concerned about.

The question is, in the long term, are we going to be able to tie these activities into government influence under threats for the purpose of political power manipulations and be able to leverage that for protection of our rights and liberties.

Now...why does this matter?

Lots of reasons. For one, credit card tracking is a way of compiling a searchable database of who buys what, when, and how much.

Outside of being a defacto registry, it's also a veritable font of information dedicated specifically to tracking civilian records related to the Second Amendment.

So...why the push for this particular method of tracking information? There has been a gravitation, even a push, to move the entire economy towards a cashless one. A cashless economy means, quite literally, EVERYTHING a person does with finances is trackable BY DEFINITION. Right down to the last cent. All income. All expenditures. All travels. Who people interact with. Everything.

Tying more things to financial databases means an ever growing potential for abuse as a data mine.
 
On a more global level, I went to NYC last week for the first time since the pandemic started (2 1/2 years ago.)

It has not regressed to what it was in the 70's and 80's, it is infinitely worse. Graffiti on EVERYTHING. Vagrants and beggars openly smoking dope. Armed guards and dogs patrolling boarded up stores. The streets reek from fecal matter.

Prostitutes and aggressive panhandlers, and not one cop in sight. All we need is free running wild dogs and naked babies and you would see a Liberian settlement.
 
I for one am extremely hopeful and optimistic about this new procedure. Imagine if ALL retailers who sell firearms code ALL purchases in their establishment as gun purchases. Then imagine when the feds roll up the guy who bought a new outboard motor or safe. Also Imagine when they roll up the mom who bought her kids' the North Face coats and boots for Christmas.

I can easily see it becoming so muddled that it not only doesn't work, but it fails in dramatic fashion.
 
You go by a firearm. but they don't have the ammo you want so you go down the street and find it at another place, couple days later you see a good deal online for ammo or whatever and get some......ugh oh 3 guns or ammo codes in one week , ugh oh might be a extremist, so your credit cards denies the purchase and or sends info to the government to investigate.

I'm not recognizing my country anymore, seems some want a communist China social credit system where the government spies on everything you do and if it doesn't fall in line they punish you and our education system is teaching our youth that is completely reasonable. But yeah what do I know I just need to take off my tin foil hat and live as ignorance is bliss.:confused:

There is a youtube video where students sign a petition to abolish the constitution, search it and listen to all the reasons they say yes.

Some merchants are dealing with this in a good way. Rocky Mountain Reloading is one of them. Here is what they stated in an email I received today.

Anyway, even the ultra leftist propaganda media outlets are reporting that it's unclear how it will make any difference. Well, the truth is that it won't. The truth is that it's just another opportunity to control guns by financial gatekeeping. They know that if they can single out gun stores then they can someday add costs or add "rules" or anything to impede the honest sale of anything they disagree with. We saw it with operation "Choke Point" and "Fast and Furious." (If you're not aware of what those were, a google search is sure to get your temperature up). While I don't think that this particular rule change will immediately make any difference whatsoever, it's just one brick in a giant wall that will eventually block us from our freedoms.

So, to alleviate your fears a little, RMR uses the "Sporting Goods" merchant code. Also, I figure that with how well our Nuke expands, if they ever ask me to change our merchant code I'll just call it a "Floral Shop." Or since pretty much all of our product gets planted into the ground I could call it "Agricultural Products."
