Here's a USCCA video addressing this topic. I'd like to see some discussion here.
It appears that your objective is to shoot. Mine is not.Not me. Part of the "home court" advantage is surprise. Why give it up? No jacking the slide or loudly chambering a round either.

Politeness and political correctness are the least important considerations. Even barring unfortunate results regarding criminal and civil judgments. a justified shooting can be expected to result in investigations, stratospheric expenses, obstacles to promotions or hiring, social losses, the possibility of retribution, and terrible psychological damage. The risks would be justified only if self preservation could not be ensured in any other way.I don’t believe a home invader worthy of a polite or politically correct approach.
I think it's wise to announce to the intruder that you are armed and that they need to leave immediately. Of course it's a different matter if someone kicks my door in and has a gun and there is no time. To sit in ambush with no warning an intruder in the home is a very bad idea in my opinion.
To decide how to best defend, one "weighs options".Guys, when someone invades your home you and your family are being violated, your safety is at stake and if you do nothing and a family member is hurt or worse, how can you justify later that you were weighing options instead of defending ?
That is irrelevant.Does any one think the invader cares about the victim ?
There is nothing "passive" about defending oneself with a gun without firing, and that strategy provides a much greater likelihood of still possessing a firearm should it be needed again.I will no longer take a passive approach to protect my family.
I would not use a Taser for defensive purposes. It is a compliance tool, which incapacitates an unruly person so that they can be safely approached and controlled--by a third party. No warning needed with Taser.
So do you lock your doors at night if so why????It appears that your objective is to shoot. Mine is not.
