I have really gotten into shooting double action. It takes some concentration but is fast and accurate. The more I shoot revolvers the more I like them.
My son decided to try round guns again yesterday. But being him, he was trying at 85 yards. Normally he can hit all day long with his semi-autos, but the wheelies gave him some pause. Trying it with a snub was even wilder. Note the "semi-auto grip".
The subject of double action shooting has been mentioned.
For the vast majority of shooters, a really vast majority, it is best to
have smooth-faced triggers, no serrations or checkering. The
serrations can really irritate the trigger finger.
Since about the mid 1980s, S&W has had smooth-faced triggers;
before that mostly serrated which help more in single action
shooting. Ruger also features smooth-faced triggers.
When Colt introduced its 2020 Python, it included serrated triggers.
What a mistake especially after redesigning to achieve a light DA.
And yes, I know Jerry Miculek prefers the serrated trigger. He's really
the rare exception in DA shooting, understatement intended.
I went through the semi auto thing for years. Just less faith in them for many reasons. Last year I went back to revolvers. Unless something breaks "which can happen with Any gun" it's going to go bang. And, with very little care. Round count, Counts less than faith any day.
My first love is single action Ruger's because of the adj, sights, next would be the SSA style ones and finally DA/SA ones of which I only own three. Just not all that crazy about them.
A bunch of us old guys meet once a week for donuts, an hour of BS, an hour of range time and a two hour lunch. I’m not the youngest at 68, but I’m close. Several are over 80. Most of them shoot some type of auto-loader in 22LR, .380 or 9 MM range. One shoots a 40 cal. Only a couple of us shoot revolvers and I’m the only one that normally brings at least one revolver each week. I am definitely better with a revolver than an automatic. I’m lucky enough to own both single and double action revolvers in a variety of calibers.
