The recent movie quotes threads have got me curious.

I want some suggestions of what dvds to buy or rent.

Give me your must watch movies.

thanks in advance.

if you like westerns SHANE comes to mind but one of my favorites is H.E.A.T. with al pacino it has the most realistic sounding gun fight of any movie i've seen to date. the gun tech on that movie knew what he was doing. ;)

I second "Heat". Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. Thumbs up. WAY high!

The Magnificient Seven
The Wild Bunch
The Shootist
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Dirty Harry movies. (All of them!)
Quigley Down Under
The Green Berets
McQ (Any John Wayne movie.)

That's all that is coming to mind, at the moment.

for some guns i would like to know more about, even if they were real or not, check out a old Dolph Lundgren movie called, "I come in peace". Some very cool, full auto pistols being fired.

Added kudos for "Heat".
Try "Enemy at the Gates".
"Uncommon Valor" has been a favorite of mine for quite some time.

Zulu(1964) and Zulu Dawn(1979). The former is about Roarke's Drift. The latter the Battle of Isandlwana. Both battles happened, historically, within hours of each other in 1879. Zulu is, by far, the better movie. Michael Caine's first starring role.
"...what dvds to buy or rent..." Have a look in your local public library too. You may be surprised at what is there for free.
Last Man Standing is pretty good too.
"...the most realistic sounding gun fight..." Movie gun shot sounds are added in post production. Real gunfire apparently doesn't sound 'real' enough.

This may sound like heresy from me, but, hey...

Gun Movie/TV/Video Game forum, with a zombies subforum. Special sections for non-English movies. If you can shoot Full-Woo, you rock. (I can)

Yeah, Bogie's bored...

The Departed has some cool shoot outs, especially the elevator scene at the end.

Windtalkers is good for ww2 guns.

Collateral is cool too.

Most realistic

Two movies that are extremely realistic are ENEMY AT THE GATES, already mentioned, and OPEN RANGE. The scenes of the gunfights in OPEN RANGE are probably the most realistic I think I have ever seen, well, except that Kevin Costner seemed to get about 10 shots out of his revolver. Another Costner film WYATT EARP also has some realistic scenes, such as when Ed Masterson was shot... he dropped to the ground with smoke rising from his abdomen from the black powder. Also mentioned, BAND OF BROTHERS is a must see.

-"Fortunately I keep all my feathers numbered" -Foghorn Leghorn

One of the best gun related/war movies I've seen in a while is the sub-titled Finnish movie "Winter War". Great story and impressive action sequences.
